The secret location that I am about to share with you is THE BEST discovery since free splash parks. Seriously. There’s a beach in the Indianapolis area. Fishers is home to a very new, very clean (no slime!), sandy beach called Saxony Beach.
Saxony Beach is a 20 acre man-made lake that has a roped off swimming area, standing paddleboard rentals, kayak rentals, paddle boats, fishing and beautiful sand to build sandcastles and dig holes in! Our Saturday visit was so nice and relaxing, street parking was free and plentiful when we went around 1pm, and the admission process was FREE and easy — we just had to sign in at the beach house.
We spread out our towels and then hit the water! There were lifeguards on duty on the waterfront and a small picnic shelter with a couple of picnic tables. The waterfront had full sun and was hot, hot, hot but we loved it!
From Indianapolis, take I-69 North to exit 10 (IN-238 toward Noblesville/Fortville).
Turn right onto IN-238 E/Southeastern Pkwy.
At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto Olio Rd.
Turn Right on 131st Street.
Turn right onto Pennington Road. Ta dah! BEACH TIME!
When you visit, here are some things you should know:
Saxony Beach and Lake is now open SEVEN days a week! Hours of operation are 11am-7pm. As far as holidays go, I’ll let you know as soon as I know.
New this year: portable toilets.
Because the only shade available is at a picnic shelter away from the waterfront, you will need an umbrella, hat, sunscreen and maybe a little tent. We saw all of these things on the beach.
There are now daily visits from food trucks.
Children under the age of 16 must have an adult with them.
No pets allowed.
Only soft balls such as nerf, beach and koosh balls may be thrown on the beach and in the water.
There was no official rule posted about floatation devices and rafts other than US Coast Guard approved life vests but I saw people floating on rafts and pool noodles.
Every hour there is a 15 minute adult swim time. It took place on the hour while we were there.
