The Indy Criterium is an annual bike race and festival in downtown Indianapolis at University Park (325 N. Meridian St.) on Saturday, July 13th. Indy Criterium offers so much fun for families even if you aren’t riding a bike of your own. Here are just a few things to check out;
From 11am-6:30pm the Indianapolis Bicycle Polo Club will be teaching bicycle polo clinics AND hosting games for ages 14 and up. At 2:40pm you can watch a tandem (bicycle built for two) race. There will be a food truck festival throughout the day and music.
If you do want to bring your bikes downtown, there are some organized “Explore Indy” bike rides for families. The routes range from 3-7 miles and explore White River State Park, the Cultural Trail and the new bike lanes through self guided maps which are provided for you.
From 11am-1pm there are plenty of freebie opportunities for kids; FREE helmet fittings and/or FREE helmet replacement, helmet decorating, bike safety information, obstacle courses, kids race registration and scavenger hunts.
Enter all of your kids (ages 3-9) in a FREE bicycle race that starts at 1:30pm. Races are separated by age 3-4, 5-6, and 7-9. You’ll need to bring your child’s bike & helmet. If your child does not have a helmet, one will be provided for free! All kids who enter will receive a race bib and refreshments for their participation in the race. Parents will need to sign a waiver/permission slip in order for kids to participate in the race. Pre-register your kids in advance or come early for on-site registration (closes at 1:15pm).
