I’m an iPhone fan. That’s not to say that it’s the only phone I’ll ever use but I love the feel of it in my hands, I love the smoothness of the screen as I swipe my finger across to unlock it, I love the heat it radiates as I use it for….everything!
The iPhone 4 changed the way I managed my life but the iPhone 4S (which I recently borrowed to facilitate this article) is a game changer for me. 4s has a fantastic camera with 8 megapixels. I can see a HUGE difference in the quality of my photographs taken on the 4s compared to the photos taken on my old iPhone 4. The iPhone 4s has virtually eliminated my need to carry another camera. We still bring along the big nice camera from time to time and when the need arises for a waterproof camera I bring my Tough Stuff camera, but really, I’ve stopped carrying around my point and shoot camera! (*all of these photos were taken with the 4s)
Another device I’ve stopped keeping in my car is my GPS navigation unit. The 4s has a fantastic navigation system using Google maps and I couldn’t be happier. One of the best parts? I don’t have to pay for updates to the GPS AND it provides live traffic information, that way I know which areas are congested so I can try to avoid them.
On a recent two week trip to the East Coast (yes, most of the east coast), my husband and I were blown away by the reliability of the Verizon network compared to that of a competing network that my husband is required to use for work. Without the Verizon network and the iPhone 4S, the streets of New York would have been impossible for us to navigate by vehicle.
If you are an iPhone and Google Maps user, then you know that you can get walking directions as well as directions via mass transit. The Verizon network did not let us down when I traveled the unfamiliar streets of New York. I was able to make a lot of financially wise decisions based on the information given to me about distance and time expected to arrive. Because of the 4s, I knew how to get where I was going and many times I ended up walking or taking public transportation rather than taking a cab.
Everyone raves about Siri, and I do too! Not only is she entertaining but she provides a lot of hands free capabilities! I’m able to make phone calls, search for something, pull up my calendar and so much more without typing ANYTHING!
I keep hearing about the Disney Mobile Magic app that is free for Verizon customers so I decided to see if there were any apps for the Sesame Place theme park that we visited while we were in Pennsylvania. YES! We were able to easily navigate the theme park using GPS, look up showtimes and find our favorite Sesame Street characters (FREE APP!). My tip for travelers is to always check for a free application anytime you visit. With the iPhone 4s on board for our BIG road trip we were able to carry around so much less stuff…that doesn’t mean we didn’t have a lot! We are still soooo the Beverly Hillbillies of stroller packing but imagine how bad it could have been without the iPhone 4s!
