California is pretty humid so I’m no stranger to summers of sweat and just trying to find that cool spot under your pillow. The difference is that I didn’t grow up with air conditioning. I don’t think I knew anyone that had air conditioning in their home until I was much older. My dad had a window unit in his home office and that room was like Mecca on a hot summer day. Generally though, we sought coolness through ice pops, Slurpees or ice cream — temperature control from the inside out.
The Indianapolis area has no shortage of fantastic frozen treat locations that offer yummy, refreshingly cool delicacies. Here are a few that we’ve checked out.If you have a favorite that isn’t on our list, leave a comment below! Tell us what you love about the place and your recommendations from their menu.
BRICS (Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station) is a popular place to relax.
Kona Ice is a food truck with SNOW CONES! Not only that but they have a SELF SERVE FLAVOR STATION! The only problem? You’ll have to hunt this cool factory down to see where they are parked for the day.
Mrs. Curl in Greenwood is a summer staple for southsiders. I recommend finding parking off site and walking over. This place is JAMMING in the summer!
Indulge in Fortville is such a cute shop and their Marshmallow Cokes rival their ice cream. Go for the ice cream but don’t skip the coke!
Sub Zero is a liquid nitrogen ice cream and frozen yogurt concept that the world first became familiar with on Shark Tank. This shop is science and deliciousness all in one! You MUST read about it!
There’s a tasty snow cone stand in Broad Ripple on the Monon Trail at Westfield Blvd. Another great summer treat for those who wish to take step off the trail or stroll the streets of Broad Ripple.
Cultured Swirl in Fountain Square offers gourmet frozen yogurt with some unique toppings! Bacon anyone?
Red Line offers self serve frozen yogurt in a train themed shop.
