“From the moment a child begins the educational journey in Lawrence Township, a world of excellence awaits. Rigorous curriculum, innovative instruction, and an abundance of resources provide opportunities for growth and challenge each student to achieve utmost success.” – Dr. Shawn A. Smith, Superintendent
The MSD of Lawrence Township, a long time innovative leader in early childhood education and the fastest growing school district in the state of Indiana, houses NAEYC accredited and Paths to Quality Level 4 pre-school programs in four Early Learning Center (ELC) locations on the campuses of Amy Beverland, Brook Park, Mary Castle and Winding Ridge Elementary Schools. Every aspect of the four sites has been purposefully designed by highly qualified staff according to best practice research. Our blended curriculum includes influences in the philosophies of the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy, as well as, Montessori, High Scope, and traditional approaches.
The Preschool of the Arts program is designed for children ages 3-5 and focuses on individual expression and exploration in art, music, movement, and literacy. The Lawrence Township ELCs believe all students will value themselves and their peers; participate in the discovery of knowledge; learn healthy social and emotional responses; and develop a love for learning that will last throughout their lives.
Come for a visit and learn why every year, over 1500 families choose the MSD of Lawrence Township Early Learning Centers for their child’s early education. Learn more at elc.ltschools.org or call our office at 317-423-8363.

DF is a small, farm-based private school which families use to supplement their home-schooling curriculum. While most of our students attend 2-3 days per week, about 1/3 attend full-time. Our mission at Distelrath Farms is to develop self-reliant, lifelong learners by facilitating an agriculturally-immersive, holistic educational space.
That means we operate a school on a farm.
More specifically, we use the teachable moments and practical skills inherent in running a farm to guide children to be independent, curious, and world-wise. We leave behind rote memorization and standardized testing in favor of a more personalized education, where our students are constantly challenged to apply what they learn to everyday situations.
There is never a dull moment at Distelrath. In addition to the ever-present potential for exploration and play, our schedule and curriculum evolves around the daily operations of the farm. While the older students (7-16) do the heavy lifting for our various farm projects, Littles (3-5) actively participate in and learn from those very same projects. From beekeeping to construction; art class to cooking…our students interact with the world in fascinating ways!

Upcoming Open Houses:

The Orchard School celebrates “Nature As Teacher” and new international research shows countless benefits for children who attend schools that feature lots of green spaces and natural scenery.
“The kids where there was more green around the school, we saw better cognitive development,” said Mark Nieuwenhuijsen, a researcher with the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona and one of the study’s authors. [The study is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.]
The Orchard School has long realized the importance of extending learning beyond a building. Orchard’s 42.9 acres serve as an outdoor classroom. For example, first graders tap trees every winter and make maple syrup. Through hands-on learning, students make connections between botany, cooking, local food economics, history and biochemistry.
Teachers at The Orchard School are experts when it comes to engaging students and fostering a love of learning. Orchard’s rich history goes back more than 90 years, when nine Indianapolis women put into practice the philosophy of John Dewey. Dewey was rebuffing a system where kids were seen as empty vessels, ready to be filled by teachers who possessed all the knowledge. The nine women wanted children to be actively engaged in the learning process. Those insightful women founded The Orchard School in 1922.
A current Orchard parent says, “In a test-driven, memorization of facts society, Orchard is a breath of fresh air, promoting innovation, creativity and application of knowledge.”
The Orchard School is located at 615 W. 64th Street, near Holliday Park.

Day Early Learning is your best choice for childcare and early education. For more than 100 years, Day Early Learning was known as Day Nursery. Under that name, we spent more than a century building a reputation as Central Indiana’s standard-bearer for excellent child care. Today in our Day Early Learning centers, we continue our tradition as the area’s best source for child care services and resources. Early education is a critical part of young children’s development and research shows it not only prepares children for kindergarten, but for a successful future of life-long learning. Our program’s major focus is the development of the individual child and we take an activity-based approach to preparing kids for kindergarten.

Meg is an Ohio State alumna and likely cheers for your college team whenever they play against that state up north. She loves all things dessert-related and a good Chuck Norris joke. When she's not spending time with her husband and two kids, she's likely doing whatever she can to avoid the laundry.
