Indiana State Fair Recipe Trail

I think that Indiana is at its best in the summer. Winter has a lot to offer but summer is amazing! The outdoors just call to us, summer produce is growing and tastes delicious, the festivals and concerts are so much fun and the State Fair shows up like none other!

Living in Indiana, I’ve come to understand fairs in a whole different way than I understood them in California. Hey, I was in 4-H in southern California but I must tell you that 4-H in Orange County and 4-H anywhere in Indiana are waaaaay different! The biggest difference that I’ve come to appreciate are the real, life, actual farmers from this great state. Many of them are at the fair! To you this isn’t a thing but to me…it’s a thing!

This year, during the Indiana State Fair, Indiana’s Family of Farmers has a recipe trail that you can follow and participate in to help feed Indiana’s hungry AND win a prize for your family! For every person who participates, one pound of food will be donated to an Indiana food bank, with a goal of 3000 pounds! It’s so easy and did I mention that in addition to helping hungry families in Indiana, you can win a Frigidaire® chest freezer?

As your family explores the fair this year, collect recipe cards from eight different locations around the Fairgrounds and when you have them all, bring them to the Family of Farmers booth at the DuPont Food Pavilion. You’ll collect a special prize there for completing the trail and then enter to win the daily diary giveaway and that freezer! Winners will be notified by email or phone. The recipe cards feature recipes from real farmers around Indiana and highlight Indiana’s commodities such as pork, beef, poultry, soybeans, corn, lamb, fish and dairy along with an Indiana wine pairing. On the flip side of the cards, State Fairgoers will meet the farmer and read a personal food story.

More information about the 2012 Recipe Trail is on the IFOF’s website. Indiana farmers grow the grains, produce and meat you eat every day. They believe that quality farming means quality food that is good for you, your family and the environment. “Food for your family, from our family.”

Just to let you know, this is a sponsored post. My family will also get tickets to the state fair and those very same Dairy Barn Coupons you want. Any stories or opinions expressed above are my own. I wouldn’t lie, even for a State Fair milk shake.
