What a crazy-fun weekend we had at Big Splash Adventure Indoor Water Park & Resort (8505 Indiana 56, French Lick, IN 47432)! This place if the perfect spot for a family with kids of any age. I will say that the kids I was with had the most fun if they were below the age of 12. Most of the “kids” within that four year gap didn’t seem to get the same enjoyment from the water park as everyone else. BUT, that could have also just been these kids. You never know with teens 🙂
We arrived on Saturday night one hour before the water park closed. It was so neat to watch the snow fall outside of the glassed in water park as we were warm inside sliding down water slides, floating in the lazy river and soaking up heat in the adults only hot tub. All of this was especially enjoyable because we had just spent the day skiing, snowboarding and tubing down the slopes at Paoli Peaks.
On Sunday morning we woke up and had a free, hot, complimentary breakfast. It was a VERY decent breakfast, not just a continental breakfast! Then we jumped back into our bathing suits, checked out of our hotel rooms (the one big downside of staying at a hotel that you want to hang out at throughout your final day) and headed back down to the water park.
Chlorine soaked, we pulled ourselves out of the water for a hot pizza lunch (moderately priced) in a picnic area overlooking the water park (we had to stake our claim to these tables early in the day to ensure we’d have a place for everyone to sit) and then we returned to the water for a few more hours before heading back to Indy. Big Splash has some very nice dressing rooms and shower facilities for those of you (and us) who are left homeless and without a hotel room after check out.
Big Splash was a short two and half hour drive from Indianapolis and worth every minute just for the ability to pretend that you are doing a summer activity during the wintriest weekend of the year. Most of the rooms sleep 4 people and even have BUNK BEDS (OMG!) but there are several rooms that can sleep many more than 4! You just may have to purchase extra water park day passes. The room rates start at about $130 per night and I’d rank this one WELL WORTH IT!
You can also check out Laser Tag and Mini Golf while you are there. So much to do without ever leaving the property.
