Krannert Park Family Center

In January 2024, The Krannert Park Family Center reopened its doors following a $10.8 million renovation that was a part of Mayor Hogsett’s Circle City Forward Initiative. The Circle City Forward Initiative invested $45 million into major park redevelopment projects across the city.

The renovations to the Krannert Park Family Center included a new indoor pool with large garage doors to connect it to a new outdoor splash pad, a new weight room and improved and expanded office and meeting space, renovated lockers and restrooms, heating and cooling improvements, and a new enclosed outdoor program and event space.

The Krannert Park Family Center has free and low-cost programming, monthly passes, and more! Low cost and free programming includes youth art classes, free tot time, free dance programs, martial art classes, workout classes, monthly game nights and bingo, senior Euchre clubs and more.

Gymnasium

Inside the Krannert Park Family Center you will also find a gymnasium, this space is utilized for basketball, pickleball, volleyball and for family open gym.  Family and Youth open gym is available daily from 3 to 5pm and Saturdays from noon to 3:30pm and is offered at no cost. Unaccompanied children must present a student identification for entry.

Basketball- Adult open gym only weekdays 1 to 3pm cost $3

Pickleball- weekdays 9 to 1pm, Saturdays 9am to noon cost $3

Volleyball- Wednesdays 5:30 to 7:30pm cost $3

*These times and dates are subject to change based on rentals of the gymnasium.

Weight Room

One of the biggest renovations was to the new state-of-the-art fitness room. This area features a walking track, treadmills and other cardio equipment, weightlifting machines, dumbbells, and free weights. The Weight Room is open to anyone 15 years of age or older. If 17 years of age and under, a waiver must be signed, and a guardian must be with the minor at all times.

The weight room is open weekdays from 9am to 7:30 pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm.

Open Gym daily passes and memberships are available.

Fitness Programs

The Krannert Park Family Center also offers low-cost fitness classes including Zumba and Extreme Hip Hop Step that are offered at $3 per class, and Indy in Motion a free fitness program. The center also has a personal trainer that offers private training programs.

Indy in Motion

Monday is Aerobic Step from 5:30- to 6:30pm

Tuesday is Yoga from 6 to 7pm

Wednesday is Strength Training and Cardio from 5:30 to 6:30pm

Indoor Pool

The pool area features 2 separate pools, one pool has a zero-depth entry with a small slide and the second is a lap pool with a water vortex twist slide. Pricing to access the pool is $3 youth/seniors, $4 adults, 2 & under free and there is a 3-month swim pass that is offered at $45. The Krannert Park Family Center also offers parent and me, preschool and youth swim lessons as well as private swim instructions.

Weekdays 4:30 to 6:30 Saturdays noon to 3:30pm

Family Splash

Tuesday and Thursday 11am to 1pmThis specific time for families to swim with their kids. Max capacity is 30 people and will be in zero depth pool.

Splash Pad

New with the renovations was the inclusion of an outdoor splash pad. This area will operate seasonally and will be offered free to the public. The splash pad features a slide and other splash and spray features.

Little Rollin Library

Inside the family center building, to the left of the welcome and admission desk is a seating area with 2 carts of children’s books. The little rollin’ library was sponsored by Girl Scout Troop 4995.

Free Activities for Children

Dance Class

This spring the Krannert Family Center had received a grant that allowed it to offer a free Ballet For Beginners class free of charge.

Tot Time

Tuesdays and Fridays 10am to noon

Tot time is a FREE program in one of the multi- purpose rooms, kids can play on the tumbling mats and soft foam shapes. There is also other equipment like hula hoops and balls for kids to play with. This activity is designated for children ages 1 to 5 and requires guardian supervision.

Arts For All

Wednesdays 5 to 6pm

This is a FREE community program that features art activities for kids to do and where they can take their art home the same day. This art program is for children ages 5-12, and adult supervision is required.

Krannert Park Playground

Krannert Park received $3.7 million dollars from the Lilly Endowment Grant to improve their outside facilities. With the Lily Endowment Grant, Krannert Park will upgrade the playground, courts, and trail around the pond. The Lily Endowment Grant distributed $80 million dollars in 2022 towards improvements across 42 parks in the Indy Parks system with completion of these renovations in 2025.

Fishing Pond

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources stocks Krannert Lake and most recently was stocked with 225 catfish. Fishing at Krannert Lake is permitted with a valid fishing license or on Free Fishing Days where people can fish in public lakes and ponds without a valid fishing license. There is also the Krannert Kids Fishing Club that meets once a week for 8 weeks. No fishing experience and no fishing license required, and parent supervision is required.

Nature Trails

There is a partially wooded area with trails. The Lily Endowment Grant will be used to improve these trails.

Krannert Park also has some Environmental Educational Programs.

Skins and Skulls is designated for children aged 8 to 12. This free program teaches about animals and their habitat and diet. This is offered on the first and last Friday of the month from 4 to 5pm.

Guided nature hikes are offered on the first Monday of every month from 9 to 10am. The cost for the guided nature hikes is $2.

 

Krannert Park and Family Center Space Rentals

Table and chairs, access to the kitchen, set up and clean up time are all included in space rentals. No alcohol is permitted in the park or facility. Rentals cancelled with over 2 weeks advanced notice is subject to a full return minus a $20 cancellation fee, cancellations made with a week to 2 weeks notice are subject to a 50% refund and no refund will be provided to cancellations made with less than a week notice.
