Um, hello! Did you know that Indianapolis has a Soap Box Derby track? Oh, and that it’s used frequently for races? The first time I saw a Soap Box Derby race was in the Little Rascals movie when I was younger. I didn’t know that kids actually did that until I took my own children to watch other kids race their cars down the hill at the Wilbur Shaw Memorial Hill. Kids in Indianapolis actually DO that on the longest track in the country! Right here in Indy!

The big 2016 season will begin officially in April. Take the kids out to see other kids as they take their cars down the track at one of our very own Indy Parks.
April 23rd & 24th, 2016 – 4 Race Weekend (See Race Day details below)
May 21st & 22nd, 2016 – 4 Race Weekend (See Race Day details below)
August 27th & 28th, 2016 – 4 Race Weekend (See Race Day details below)
September 24th & 25th, 2016 – 4 Race Weekend (See Race Day details below)
Typically, the first race begins at 9am at the Wilbur Shaw Memorial Soap Box Derby Hill (at 30th Street and Cold Springs Road). Too early for your family on a Saturday morning? The race will most likely take place all day, ending near 4pm. After you watch this, your kids might want to participate and that’s just fine. Soap Box Derby Races are open to all kids ages 8-20 years old and have a strong emphasis on building strong family relationships. Lulu kept telling me over and over again that she wanted to get into the cars!
Be very respectful of space and boundaries but don’t be too shy to ask permission to stand in certain areas. We were able to stand at the top of the hill about 3 feet from the cars as they took off!
Admission is free. Bring your own chairs, food and drinks and dress for the weather. See you all there!
The Wilbur Shaw Memorial Soap Box Derby Hill is a public park through Indy Parks.
