Last summer, I spent an evening with ten teenagers picking some strawberries at Spencer Farm in Noblesville. We had a delicious, er.. WONDERFUL time! Each of us picked about two pounds to take home to our families and I don’t know how many accidentally ended in our mouth (quality control ya know?).
Spencer Farm is about 25 minutes north of Indianapolis in Hamilton County (7177 East 161st Street, Noblesville) but I would drive further for the fun experience that we had. It was also neat to pick with other families and see them teaching their kids to pick and save the berries rather than shove them in their mouths. In case you anticipate that happening with your family, here is some information about how Spencer Farm grows their berries so that they CAN be eaten off the vine.
During picking season (generally May – June) Spencer Farm is open 9a.m.-7p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12p.m.-6p.m. Sunday.
The staff was very friendly and helpful; the facilities were clean and well kept. It took us about 45 minutes to each pick 2 pounds of berries. The price is $1.95 per pound and totally worth it! I recommend bringing a small bottle of drinking water for each of your family members and sunscreen.
