[The study is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.]  The Orchard School has long realized the importance of extending learning beyond a building. Orchard’s 42.9 acres serve as an outdoor classroom. For example, first graders tap trees every winter and make maple syrup. Through hands-on learning, students make connections between botany, cooking, local food economics, history and biochemistry. Orchard’s rich history goes back more than 90 years, when nine Indianapolis women put into practice the philosophy of John Dewey. Dewey was rebuffing a system where kids were seen as empty vessels, ready to be filled by teachers who possessed all the knowledge. Legacy Christian School Preschool Program We are a non-denominational Christian Preschool with programs for children 3 to 5 years old. Our school building houses Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High School and is located in Noblesville.  Our focus is on teaching character development and helping your child meet developmental benchmarks in education.  We believe that children learn as they play and when actively engaged.  We offer a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.  We also provide a loving Christian environment where God’s love is not only the basis of our teaching, but is also modeled by our teachers and all those associated with our program. LCS offers a variety of programs and choices of days with hours being either 9:00-1:00 or 9:00-3:00 pm.  All students eat lunch at school but full-day students also receive a variety of special classes during the afternoon.  These classes include PE, Art and Library Buddies depending on the day they attend.  Programs offered include Jumpstart 3 (young 3’s), 3/4 year old, 4/5 Pre-Kindergarten, and the 5+(older preschooler) classes.
