Indy with Kids one-time contributor, Cassandra fills us in on her peek of the Butterfly Kaleidoscope;
I was completely twitter-pated when I found out that Penelope and I were two of the luckiest Indianapolis residents who got to see the Butterfly Kaleidoscope exhibit preview at the Indianapolis Zoo’s White River Gardens.
I remember the last time I was at the Butterfly Exhibit at the Indianapolis Zoo. I was grumpy and pre-teen, it was a hot summer day and I was with my parents and acting like, well, a grumpy pre-teen. I had to act like I didn’t like the butterflies at all and it was way beneath how cool I definitely was. Thank goodness those days are over!
This time, if it weren’t for the other attendees, I could have danced all day through the beautiful exhibit, singing and floating with all of the beautiful butterflies. If it’s been a while since you have seen the exhibit, you’ll notice a lot has changed! They have new water features, custom butterfly feeders, sailcloth mobile art and many more new additions.
Did I mention the peanut loves butterflies? This day could not have been better. This little girl has butterflies in her bedroom as decor; when you say butterfly, she looks up! She really enjoyed the ‘Build a Butterfly” station. Using magnetic butterfly pieces you can use your creativity to build a unique butterfly! She also ooooed and awed at all of the butterflies she spotted as well as the mobiles hanging from the conservatory ceiling!
They have over 40 species of native and exotic butterflies. They are extremely up close and personal. In fact one might land on your shoulder. When you leave,you’ll have to make sure you don’t take one with you!
This is well worth a visit with the kids or on your own to take in some beautiful greenery and experience nature at its finest! The exhibit is back after a 2 year hiatus and it is amazing. We will definitely be back to visit & stop by the Hilbert Garden shop to grab some more butterfly decor for my sweet little P. This exhibit is seasonal, so check the Zoo website for dates.
Fly on over ;)!
Butterfly Kaleidoscope is included with paid zoo admission. Our family was admitted to the exhibit for the purpose of this article but all thoughts, stories and opinions are true and are my own.
