Another Indiana tradition is being canceled for this year—The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is canceled for the 2020-21 season. Like the Indiana State Fair and 500 Festival, The Christkindlmarkt German-style market and ice skating rink will not open during the 2020 season due to Coronavirus concerns.
The city of Carmel also canceled other events scheduled to take place at Center Green including Artomobilia, Late Night on Main, and Oktoberfest, among others. The city cited large crowds and the inability to maintain social distance for the cancellations. However, officials plan to offer smaller, less congested events throughout the rest of the year.
The Christkindlmarkt is working with vendors to sell merchandise online or with local retailers.
There’s no word if the closures will continue through 2021. The ice rink is not being installed this season, so ice skating is definitely postponed until the 2021-22 season.
Only a few Christkindl Markets exist in the midwest and Carmel, Indiana is home to one of the best. Some of our favorite things about the Carmel Christkindlmarktis the clock hut, German pretzels, and hot cocoa.
