Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates deceased family members through music, storytelling, food, and ofrendas (altars). Join us for our inaugural Día de Muertos celebration to learn more about this Mexican holiday and partake in the traditions!
Enjoy cultural music and storytelling by Meztli Cultural, create Mexican-inspired crafts, and try traditional foods like pan de muerto (bread of the dead), tamales, and Mexican hot cocoa. Share a photo, drawing, or stories about your deceased loved ones by adding to our community memorial wall, and learn more about the elements that go into building an ofrenda (altar).*
Guests are encouraged to dress up in traditional outfits and face paint and join us for a night parade through Garfield Park to the Tube Factory at the end of the event.
*As is tradition, a decorated altar to pay respects to deceased family and friends is an important part of any Dia de Muertos event. We will offer a memorial wall to allow anyone to honor their lost loved ones. You are welcome to bring a copy of a picture to add to our memorial wall. Pictures won’t be returned, so only bring copies. To share a digital picture for this event on social media, post in this Facebook event!
