The cosmos has captured the imagination of people throughout history. Ancient astronomers recorded their observations of the movements of celestial objects. Calendars were based on the position of the earth and stars, and constellations were named after mythological heroes. The relatively recent advent of the telescope followed by the advancement of powerful land and space-based telescopes has led to the discoveries of nebulae, black holes, quasars, exoplanets, and galaxies so distant that light given off 13 billion years ago is just now reaching earth! Indeed, interest in the cosmos is greater than ever.
Join local astronomer/astrophotographer Doug Balogh each month as you explore the cosmos. A classroom-type discussion will cover topics in astronomy as well as fun facts about the objects to be viewed later that night. Attendees will move outdoors to train their telescopes skyward. All are welcome to view objects through the host’s telescopes. Attendees are highly encouraged to bring their telescopes. Assistance with telescope setup and use will be available for all.
In the event of inclement weather, the indoor meeting will still take place. However, the outdoor telescope viewing session may be canceled. Dress accordingly.
