Join us for a lantern walk around Lilly Lake! This program has two parts. One involves getting creative at home and building a lantern with stuff you have around the house and the other involves getting outside for an evening walk around Lilly Lake.
This event is free with park admission. Park admission is $6 per car for Marion County Residents and $7 per car for out-of-county residents. No registration is required. Cash and credit cards are accepted at the gates.
Tips for making a lantern:
Use your creativity to make a lantern at home. Seeing the variety of lanterns produced by the community is one of the things that makes this event so fun and festive!
-Repurposing materials is highly encouraged.
-Avoid using glass in your creation.
-Give your lantern a handle or a comfortable way to carry it.
-Keep it lightweight!
-Do not use real flames.
-Battery-operated candles or glow sticks will help protect the forest.
Not feeling creative? Really just don’t have time to make a lantern? No worries! You can use a flashlight or a store-bought lantern (battery-operated) or you can walk with glowsticks. We recommend you cover the end of the flashlight with a piece of fabric or red plastic wrap to reduce the brightness of the white light. Check out the event page for more tips, maps and pictures from last year.
