Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration

This summer marks the 51st anniversary of Summer Celebration, Indiana Black Expo’s premier event celebrating Black Culture in Indiana. The Indiana Black Expo (IBE) was founded in 1970 as a way to endorse community events and positive programs that support the lives of local African Americans.

This year the Summer Celebration will return to a full calendar of in-person events with the theme Celebrating Our Culture and Impact. Events will take place in Indianapolis from July 7-17, 2022.

Here are some of the highlights from this years’ Summer Celebration to note on your calendar as you plan your summer activities.

Business Conference – Gateway to Opportunities

Monday, July 11 & Tuesday, July 12, 2022
Indiana Convention Center, 100 S Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis

As Central Indiana corporations and organizations committed to creating strategies to level the playing field, this conference will offer real and meaningful opportunities for black, brown, women, veterans, and disability business owners. Meet and hear from key decision-makers about DEI initiatives and multi-million dollar contracting opportunities. Learn tips from established executives and business owners on how to insert yourself into high-level conversations for contract negotiations.

Education Conference – From Surviving to Thriving

Wednesday, July 13 & Thursday, July 14, 2022
Wednesday sessions are virtual and Thursday sessions are at the Indiana Convention Center.

The Educational Conference is titled “From Surviving to Thriving” is geared toward educators, mentors, and professions who work closely with Black youth. Wednesday’s sessions are virtual and free. Thursday’s sessions are in-person at the Indiana Convention Center. The cost to register for in-person on Thursday or to register for both Wednesday and Thursday are $35 to cover lunch with our Keynote Speaker Dr. Brown.

Summer Celebration Corporate Luncheon

Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11 am
Indiana Convention Center, 100 S Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis

The Pacers Sports and Entertainment Corporate Luncheon will honor people that have made significant contributions to the Black community as well as those that has honored the pledge to fight against racial and social injustice. Proceeds benefit Indiana Black Expo’s youth and family programs.

Music Heritage Festival – Free Outdoor Concert

Friday, July 15, 2022, at 6 pm
American Legion Mall, 700 N. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis

On Friday, July 15 the annual Music Heritage Festival will return to the American Legion Mall in Downtown Indianapolis. This free, outdoor concert will feature Patti LaBelle, Monica, and After 7. VIP admission is available starting at $75.

The All White Affair

Saturday, July 16, 10 pm-3 am
Old National Centre, 502 N New Jersey Street, Indianapolis

On Saturday, July 16 the music continues at the All White Affair–a concert featuring Chubb Rock & Kool Moe Dee in The Egyptian Ball Room at Old National Centre. Tickets range from $50-$100 and can be purchased in advance through Ticketmaster. Tickets may be available the night of the show for a higher price.
