Indy Film Fest and Downtown Indy, Inc. have partnered for Sunset Cinema on the Canal. Everyone is invited to watch FREE outdoor movies Thursdays, Aug. 16 & Aug. 23 along the Canal. A large movie screen will be located on the north end of the Canal near the Admiral Spruance Basin (11th Street).

Movie-goers are invited to bring blankets/chairs and picnics to enjoy the movies on the grassy areas. In addition, food and soft drinks will be available to purchase near Canal 337 by Thomas Caterers.

The movies are:

  • Aug. 16: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (PG-13)
  • Aug. 23: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (PG-13)

Both movies will start at dusk (around 9 p.m.)

For those who would enjoy an in-water, one-of-a-kind experience, individuals age 21+ can pay $20 and receive a floating inner tube (to keep) to watch the movie in the Canal, along with a Sun King beer. In-water participants can register for Aug. 16 here or Aug. 23 here. Inner tubes are limited. Pre-registration is required.

“After tremendous success with Yelp’s Cabrewing on the Canal in 2017, we wanted to bring back another in-Canal experience,” said Bob Schultz, senior vice president of marketing, communication and events for Downtown Indy, Inc. “Thanks to Indy Film Fest, we know this will be a unique event and fun for all attendees.”

The Aug. 23 movie is in partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, following the inaugural Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Brickyard Pit Stop Paddle. The two events are in preparation for the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Powered by Florida Georgia Line race Sept. 9.

All proceeds from Downtown Indy, Inc.’s Sunset Cinema will go to Indy Film Fest’s mission, as well as Downtown beautification and décor. Inner tubes are provided by 9 on Canal Apartments for Aug. 16 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Aug. 23.
