xZOOberance at the Indianapolis Zoo has been grabbing our attention for weeks with their pop of color graphics and advertising and farewell to winter antics. We couldn’t wait to check it out! While xZOOberance opened to very cold temperatures, the colorful pinwheels and bright flowers warmed up the Bicentennial Pavilion.
This three week festival celebrates spring with music and dancing, flowers and butterflies, arts and crafts, activities and games and a whole lot of fun! You’ll be greeted by 100’s of small spinning pinwheels and a few giant ones amidst giant flowers and butterflies, giving you the illusion of being shrunk down into the size of a bug.
Speaking of bugs, there are activities for everyone, including learning about pollinators while you toss the pollen in to a bucket, coloring an animal print kite, creating your own pinwheel to take home, animal pose yoga, goats and chickens to look at and our favorite, a floral arrangement shed where you’ll create your own blossoming bouquet of beauty.
The Cheer Garden, a garden shed stocked with warm pretzels, a bier snack pack, wine, soda, water and other beverages and snacks will keep you fueled up as your kids play and dance in the gardens. Have a seat and play a game of tic-tac-toe while you take in the sights and sounds of xZooberance.
There are two stages packed full of entertainment; live bands including local favorites Ruditoonz, our friends from Kids Dance Outreach, the Teddy Bear Series program from the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, storytellers and more! Learn about potted plants for the spring and backyard chicks during demonstrations on the stage. There is continuous entertainment scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.
Don’t miss this spring festival that will shoo winter away (at least while you’re visiting the zoo). Visit now through April 7th, Thursday – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. xZooberance Activities and entertainment are included in zoo admission or membership.
