Drop your child off at a class to encourage creativity, exploration and independence in an environment that promotes curiosity and imagination during this monthly program. This program is for 4- to 6-year-olds to attend on their own.

Cost is $10 for members and $13 for non-members. Registration is preferred in advance of each event and can be made online by finding the event date at or by calling (317) 232-1637, but tickets are available at the door. Learn more:

Upcoming Themes

JANUARY – Backyard Animals: Discover the animals that call Indiana home and explore the museum’s Natural Regions
gallery. Learn about habitats and animal adaptations through stations, interactive story time, nature-based art and sensory play.

FEBRUARY – Rocks and Minerals: Little ones can become geologists and take a look at real rocks and minerals from the museum’s collection, just in time for GeoFest (Feb. 21-23).

MARCH – Simple Machines: Design and engineer your own invention using simple machines after being inspired by the museum’s new experience about humorist and inventor Rube Goldberg.

APRIL – Spring Time: Celebrate Earth Day by discovering ways to take care of our environment and working on a recyclables-based art project.

MAY – Young Paleontologist: The Indiana State Museum is known for our huge collection of Ice Age animal bones – and this month’s Young Explorers program will explore those cool bones! Discover what it takes to be a paleontologist, practice these skills by digging in a dig pit and more.
