12 February Family Nights Out in Indianapolis

  1. You can celebrate the start of Valentine’s Day by making a unique heart keepsake. Join Home Depot’s free workshop on Saturday, February 1 from 9am to noon. During the workshop kids will make a one of a kind heart string art that they can give to a loved one. It’s a great way to include dad’s, grandpas or uncles in a fun hands on building activity.
  2. Did you know winter is hooting season for owls? Many birds leave during fall & winter, but owls are more prevalent and breed during this cold season. Don’t miss an opportunity to discover and learn more about these beautiful birds at the Zion Nature Center. Learn about the different owls that make their home in Zionsville and head outside with a Naturalist to observe some owls in the wild. The event will be held Saturday, February 1 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The event is free and does not require registration.
  3. Head to the Commons in Columbus for an enchanting performance of Charming Princes. First Fridays for families is a family entertainment series that introduces children to performing arts. The performance will be held on Friday, February 7, with doors opening at 5:20pm and the show starting at 6pm.
  4. Do you have boys or men in your life that love monster trucks? Why not treat them to the ultimate monster truck racing and smashing at the Monster Jam Show. The show will be on Saturday, February 8 at 7pm and Sunday, February 9 at 3pm. It will be held at the Lucas oil stadium and tickets are sold online with varying prices.
  5. Check out Kid’s day at the Home & Outdoor Living Show on Sunday, February 9 at The Grand Park Events Center in Westfield. The event will feature bounce houses, a magician, princess meet & greet, royal tea party, an interactive and educational Dino-roar, have your child’s picture taken with a T-rex and much more. Admission is free for children 12 and under and $10 for adults at the door, if tickets are purchased online, they are $5 per adult.
  6. Join your local library for free family events throughout the month. The Irvington Branch Library will host a class for kids on February 3 from 4pm to 5pm. The White River Public Library in Greenwood is hosting a family board game night on February 24 from  pm to 8:30pm. The Brownsburg Public Library will have LEGO Club on February 12 from 4pm to 4:45pm. The Noblesville Library is hosting a create, color and chill for all kids to come and create various art activities on February 5 from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
  7. Don’t know what to do on Valentine’s Day with kids? Check out Skateland’s Valentine’s Day skating fun. On Friday, February 14 from 6pm to 9pm you can get into the Skate land for $1 when wearing red. Regular admission is $5 per person and Adults 18+ not skating enter for free. There will also be a great family dinner deal that includes a large one topping pizza, pitcher of soda and 20 game tokens all for only $20.
  8. There will be lots of different Valentine’s Day dances happening across central Indy. Register for one of the great dances for a fun daddy-daughter night or family night out.
  9. What do Abraham Lincoln, John F Kennedy and Barack Obama have in common? They were all presidents! On Monday, February 17th the nation will celebrate Presidents’ day. As a great way to teach kids about our current and past presidents, some central Indiana museums will offer free admission on Monday. The Indiana State Museum will offer free admission all day and will include various activities. Conner Prairie will have free admission with a meet & greet of former presidents and first ladies.
  10. Did you know this year marks the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote? On Presidents’ day, Monday, February 17th the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis will offer free admission all day to celebrate this great day. The museum will showcase women representing the suffragette movement, hear Mary Todd Lincoln’s story and voting rights throughout American history.
  11. The Carmel Symphony Orchestra presents Family Fun!: Greatest ‘Classical’ Hits for Kids. On Sunday, February 23 at 3pm the Palladium will allow families to sit on stage during the musical and afterwards children can play one of their favorite musical instruments at the musical petting zoo, a fun and interactive way to introduce music to children. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children.
  12. All through the month of February is Black History Month, it’s a great month to honor the accomplishments of black Americans in every area throughout history. To conclude this month there will be a Naturally Me celebration on February 29 from 11am-6pm. Experience black art, live poetry readings, live performances, food and a variety of local black businesses. The event is free but does require registration.
