February Special Needs Events and Activities in Indianapolis | 2020

My family loves the month of February! It’s the month of love in our household, being that we got married on Valentine’s Day! The days are starting to get longer, and spring is on the horizon! February is a great month, with so much to do around town. Here are a few ideas, that are inclusive and special needs friendly, for you and your family to enjoy around the greater Indianapolis area.

Conner Prairie Sensory Friendly Morning

February 2, 9 am to 10 am
13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers, IN 46038

Conner Prairie will be open one hour early for those with Sensory Differences and their families. Lights will be dimmed, and noises will be turned off, to ensure a sensory friendly environment. Sensory Friendly Morning is $4 per person. (members are free) Check out everything Discovery Station has to offer.

Wheelchair and Adaptive Tennis Clinic

Sensory Sensitive Sundays at Chuck E Cheese

February 2, 8 am

Chuck E Cheese offers a sensory- friendly experience on the first Sunday of each month. They open two hours before normal, to specifically welcome special needs children, and their families, for a quieter and calmer environment. The events are staffed with specially trained employees, to ensure that each special guest has a fun filled visit.

Urban Air Adventure Park

February 2nd 10am-12pm

Sensory Friendly Jump will be held the first Sunday of the month from 10-12. It is 15.99 per child for the Ultimate attraction pass (regularly $29.99) and parents are free!

Adaptive All Star Athletes

Team up with Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation! Athletes will try a variety of sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball, and more! This class will focus on cultivating teamwork skills while your child develops as an athlete. The ratio is one staff per two athletes. This class is specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. This class is $26 total for all four sessions.

Adaptive Open Swim

February 7 8:15 pm to 9:45 pm

Join Carmel Clay Parks and Rec for an indoor Adaptive Open Swim! Their indoor activity pool will be open just for families who have members with disabilities. The indoor activity pool will be open for families to swim, play and interact with others. Pre-registration is required. Registration is per family. The cost for Adaptive Open Swim is $10.

Sensory Sunday- Fishers YMCA

February 9 and 23,  1:30 to 3 pm
9012 E 126th Street, Fishers, IN 46038

Play & Learn will be open for Y families with children with sensory sensitivities or other diverse needs. Must register at least one week in advance. Child to staff ration will be kept at 4:1 regardless of age. Sensory Sunday will be held the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.

Adaptive Kids Day Out

February 15, noon to 2 pm
Thatcher Park

Parents need a break too! Children will enjoy Indy Park’s Adaptive Kids Day Out structured gym activities, socializing with friends, and light snacks. Activities include group games, arts and crafts, and music. Please make sure your child bring their swim suit and towel. This is event is for children ages 6-17, and the cost is $5 per child.

Family Night Out- Carter’s Play Place

February 21, 6 pm to 9 pm

On the third Friday of each month, Carter’s Play Place hosts a Family Night Out. Pizza, open play, and games are provided for $10 per child, and parents are free! (Pizza available to purchase for parents.) Check out everything Carter’s Play Place has to offer.

Studio Movie Grill-Sonic The Hedgehog

Special needs children, and their families, are invited to attend a special screening of Sonic The Hedgehog. The film will be shown with the lights up, and the sound down, to accommodate those with sensory sensitivities. Children are free to move around the rows and aisles, talk, or even dance during the movie. Special needs children and their siblings are free, and parents are only charged the before noon matinee pricing.

AMC Indianapolis 17- Special Needs Movie Screenings

February 8 and 22
4235 S. Meridian Street Indianapolis, 46217

The 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, AMC invites special needs children, and their families, to enjoy movies in a sensory sensitive environment. The film is shown in a lights up, sound down setting. In addition, children are welcome to move throughout the aisles and talk during the film.
