Free. Frugal. Green. Those are the top three favorite words of my “internet friends”. There are many ways to go about being frugal and green at Halloween, you can make a costume, get one at Goodwill or just skip the costume. One thing that I had never considered was to participate in a costume swap. Good thing someone else came up with the National Costume Swap Day.

Participants bring a gently used, clean costume to swap for a different clean, gently used costume. Accessories are available for trade as well at some costume swaps. I am aware of two costume swaps taking place in the Indianapolis area this year;

On the south side, check out the 7th Annual Halloween Costume Swap: “Respook, Rewear, Rescare” sponsored by the Johnson County Recycling District. This event will take place at the Franklin Cultural Arts and Rec Center (396 Branigin Rd in Franklin) on Friday, October 12th from 10am to 6pm. There will be hundreds of costumes for the entire family for ages infant to adult.

On the north side, Re-boo! Re-wear! Re-Scare! A Costume Swap put on by Hamilton County Parks and Recreation at Cool Creek Park (2000 E 151st St, Carmel) on Saturday, October 13th from 1pm to 3pm. More info 317.774.2500.

What a fantastic way for kids to learn about reusing, saving money and just being responsible!
