Free Meals for Children during Coronavirus School Closures

The school closures due to the Coronavirus Pandemic have raised concerns for many, as countless families rely on the free and reduced lunch programming at schools to provide meals to their children. We want to make sure that all families know where to go to access food, free of charge, to those in need. Please continue to check this article, as we will continue to update this information.

Marion County

Beech Grove Schools will have free “Grab and Go” breakfast and lunch meals available to ALL (children, young people, and adults). One member of the household may pick up meals for everyone in the household and there are no income restrictions. Meals are served Monday-Friday

Indy Parks and Recreation is continuing its free after school meal services for youth ages 18 and under and Second helpings is providing sack lunch for adults. Meals can be picked up at the following locations and times:

Indianapolis Public Schools is offering prepackaged meals—breakfast, lunch and dinner  to be distributed on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Mondays, students will receive six prepackaged meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) to cover three meals a day for two days. On Wednesdays, students will receive nine prepackaged meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) to cover three meals a day for three days. Meal service is open to all students age 18 and younger, including non-IPS students, on a first-come, first-served basis. Meals will be distributed from the parking lot of 14 district schools and two apartment complexes.

Perry Township Schools will provide lunches to those who need them. The meals are available to anyone who is 18 years old or younger regardless of where they attend school. Note: Students must be present in order to receive the food. Meals are available Monday-Friday from 11 am-Noon at these schools:

Warren Township will offer free food to all children 18 years of age and under on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 am-1 pm at  Eastridge, Hawthorne, Pleasant Run Elementary, Creston, Raymond Park, Stonybrook Intermediate Middle Schools, Warren Central High School, Washington Pointe, Braeburn, Knoll Ridge Apartments, and Shiloh Estates Mobile Park. The distribution will include 6 meals on Tuesdays and 8 meals on Fridays. Wednesday evenings will be from 5:30-7: pm at Post Road Christian Church and Lakeside Elementary. Wednesday locations will distribute a total of 8 meals.

Washington Township Schools will offer free meal packets for any WT families during the school closure. “Grab and Go” meal packets will contain 8 days of breakfast and lunch supplies. Distribution will be held at every Monday through May 18th at  North Central.

Prior to pulling up to the meal distribution area, please open your trunk or rear lift gate. It is not necessary to roll down your window. Instead, please indicate the number of students for whom you are picking up meals with a show of fingers through the front windshield. If you do not have a trunk or rear lift gate, stay in your vehicle and the volunteer will place the meal packets on the hood of your car. After the volunteer has turned from your car, please retrieve the food packet from the hood of your car, before driving away from the pick up line.

Hamilton County 

Carmel Clay Schools will provide school-aged children with supplemental food during this closure. You must complete the Supplemental Food Request Form by the end of the day each Monday or contact your school’s social worker or counselor..  You only need to complete the form once to continue receiving supplemental food services. Food pick up is Wednesdays, 11 am-1 pm at Carmel High School, Door #9. Families are to stay in their vehicles in the Carmel High School carpool line, as the supplemental food packs will be delivered directly to the vehicle by CCS staff.

Westfield Washington Nutrition Services will provide meals for our WWS students 7 days a week! Pick up is Mondays and Thursdays on the following schedule:

Hamilton Southeastern will be distributing supplemental food packs to help free & reduced qualified families who need food assistance. Food packs will contain five breakfast and five lunch meals to supplement students’ food availability at home. Food will be available for pick up once a week, on Tuesdays (April 14, April 21, April 28 ) between 11 am – 1 pm at either Fishers High School or Hamilton Southeastern High School. Families are to stay in their vehicles in the carpool line, as the supplemental food packs will be delivered directly to the vehicle by HSE staff.

Noblesville Schools food pick ups are on Mondays at NHS from Noon-2 pm. If you selected food delivery, you will receive home deliveries on Tuesdays between 8-10 am. We will attempt to contact families when we are en route to a home. Please contact the school in which your child attends, to be connected with food resources.

Sheridan Community Schools will be handing out free sack lunches for students. They will be available Monday-Friday, from 11-1 pm through the end of the academic year, at the following drop off points:

  • Sheridan High School Gym Lobby
  • Old Library Parking Lot. Main Street, Sheridan 
  • Drive West of Water Tower (East of State Road 47) 

Johnson County

Franklin Community Schools has opened The Cub Pantry to all FCS students and employees. Staff should bring their employee ID, and for students, at least one student should be present with knowledge of his or her student ID. Follow their Facebook page for dates and time of the Cub Pantry.

Hendricks County

Plainfield Community Schools– Plainfield schools have sent information about truck routes directly to all students via Parent Square account. These truck routes will continue through the academic year, and more information can be found on their website. 

Brownsburg Community School Corporation Details have been communicated with families of students in need. If your family’s status has changed, please submit a new application for free and reduced meal benefits.
