Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation offers programming to fit the course needs for local homeschool families. Find your favorite activity in the program guide or select from programs designed specifically for homeschool families. Homeschool Archery, Discovering Nature, Homeschool Gym and Homeschool Intro the Theatre are just a few of the offerings.

Brrrr! December temperatures have me wanting to hibernate, cozy with some cocoa and a recently released streaming service, and NOT do all the things. (Hey, there are documentaries on those, too!) BUT I’m not very good at staying home when there are fun things going on.  Here is our December list, and don’t forget to check out the Indy With Kids Events Calendar, for even more local fun!

December 2: Homeschool Gym

Make friends while learning a variety of games, exercises and sports. Activities include capture the flag, basketball, soccer and more!  This program meets every Monday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $25.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

December 2: Homeschool Nature

The resident naturalist will lead you through hands-on activities and experiments through science exploration. Participating in Homeschool Nature helps meet Indiana State science requirements such as life, earth, and space, as well as geography and more.  This program meets every Monday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $25.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

December 3: Homeschool Tuesdays: Take Me To The Moon

Indiana State Museum

This month, engineer your very own rocket and launch it! Then, build a shock-absorbing system that will protect your astronauts when they land.

December 4: Homeschool Enrichment: Literati- Across the Pond

Small Youth Program Room

Calling all young scholars! Come to the Noblesville Library to expand your mind on the liberal arts! This homeschool enrichment program will cover topics such as artist, author, world studies and more! Each session will include group instruction, a hands on activity and independent learning centers. Geared for ages 9-13. No registration required.  

December 5: Homeschool Adventures

Homeschooled children ages 6 – 12 are invited for activities designed to entertain and educate as a supplement to their homeschool curricula.

December 5: H-Club

Homeschoolers! Join us for H-Club to hear stories make crafts and play games at the library.

December 10: Homeschool Explorers

Homeschool families of all ages are invited to learn about Library resources and new discovery skills while participating in fun theme-based activities.

December 11: STEM Playground for Homeschooling Families 

Carmel Clay Public Library
55 4th Ave SE, Carmel, 46032

Children ages 5-13 and their families can come to practice STEM skills and have fun! Work together or individually to complete challenges for several different games that focus on logic, coding, circuitry, science, and other STEM-related categories. This program is for homeschool families. Games are appropriate for ages 5+, and activities will be provided for those under 5. This program will be held in the Program Room and is for families with children of all ages.

December 11: Homeschool Adventures at Nora

Noon-2 pm

Homeschoolers are invited for fun and fact-based programs with lots of interaction. Most activities are geared toward children ages 6 and older, but there will be some for younger children. Some programs may be quite messy!

December 11: Newfields Homeschool Open Studio

1-3 pm
4000 N Michigan Road, Indianapolis 46208

Looking for new ways to learn about art? Expand your family’s creativity by exploring a variety of art-making materials in Newfields Homeschool Open Studio sessions. Instructor will provide advice to make curriculum connections and stimulate imaginations. Registration required in advance. $10 Members/ $15 Public

December 12: Engineering the Holidays

10-11:30 am or 1-2:30 pm
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis- Welcome Center

Put science to work as you become an engineer this December! Tackle some of our holiday challenges and problems to see who can save the season. Your tasks will be to design a jingle bell tower, make a reindeer fly, create a circuit out of Christmas lights, and finally, put all of your skills to use in the ultimate holiday test! Will you crack the case? Come out and see! Advance tickets are required.

December 13: Homeschool Skate

Come enjoy our monthly skating party with friends! Skate rental is $2 and admission for skaters is $4.

December 16: STEAMpunks: The Great Arctic Circle STEM Challenge

Calling all homeschoolers! Join us for a FUN club for homeschooling tweens with STEAM focused enrichment activities.  Ages 9-13. No registration required. 

December 18: Homeschool Hangout

Homeschool families with school aged children are invited to participate in a librarian-led activity about music science history books or just plain fun. Time to socialize will follow.

December 19: Homeschool Hangout

Hangout with other homeschool families and students in a fun environment with a variety of activities. All materials provided.  Geared towards ages 5-13. No registration required.

December 31: Random Fandom: Legend of Zelda

Celebrate your fandom! Every month we will explore the realms of a different fandom! From Avengers to Doctor Who, to K-Pop and Pokémon, we will geek out together in an open and accepting evening of fun. Cosplaying is encouraged but not required. For grades 6-12. No registration required.
