January Homeschool Events and Activities in Indianapolis

Some of our favorite homeschool activities have taken the month off and will be back in February, but there are some really interesting activities added to the list this month.   Don’t forget to also check out the Indy With Kids Events Calendar, for even more local fun!

January 6: Homeschool Gym

Monon Community Center West Building, 1195 Central Park Dr. West, Carmel 46032

Make friends while learning a variety of games, exercises and sports. Activities include capture the flag, basketball, soccer and more!  This program meets every Monday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $25.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

January 6: Homeschool Art Adventure

Join us for an art adventure!  In this program, you will learn different mediums, famous artists, historic artistic movements, and make your own artwork to take home! This program meets for three Monday sessions: January 6, 13, and 27th.  The session fee is $30 and is available for ages 6-13.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

January 7: Homeschool Tuesdays “Art in Motion”

Indiana State Museum

Dive into a world of investigation and discovery during these two-hour classes designed to stimulate a child’s interest in science, art, history and culture. This month, activate your creative side and spend the morning creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces!   This class is recommended for ages 6-13.  Tickets are required. January 8: Homeschool Swim

Monon Community Center West Building, 1195 Central Park Dr. West, Carmel 46032

Splash into fun with other homeschooling families!  This course is designed to provide swimmers with free time to enjoy the indoor pools, water features, and water slides.  This program meets every Wednesday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $40 and is available for ages 3-15.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

Homeschoolers! Join us for H-Club to hear stories make crafts and play games at the library.

January 9: STEM Playground for Homeschooling Families

Carmel Clay Public Library, 55 4th Ave SE, Carmel, 46032

Children ages 5-13 and their families can come to practice STEM skills and have fun! Work together or individually to complete challenges for several different games that focus on logic, coding, circuitry, science, and other STEM-related categories. This program is for homeschool families. Games are appropriate for ages 5+, and activities will be provided for those under 5. This program will be held in the Program Room and is for families with children of all ages.

January 9: Full STEAM Ahead “The Great Iditarod Race”

1-2 pm
Fishers Library, 5 Municipal Dr, Fishers 46038

Calling all homeschoolers! Join us for this Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, and Math focused enrichment program.  This month will be a special presentation of The Great Iditarod Race.  Karen Land, three time Iditarod musher and her faithful canine Noggin will entertain with stories from the Alaskan Trail.  No registration is required. This program is open to homeschoolers of all ages.

January 10: Homeschool Skate

Come enjoy our monthly skating party with friends! Skate rental is $2 and admission for skaters is $4.

January 13: STEAMpunks: The Science of Polymers

1-2 pm

Calling all homeschoolers! Join us for a FUN club for homeschooling Tweens with STEAM focused enrichment activities.  Recommended for ages 9-13.  No registration is required.

January 15: Homeschool Enrichment: Literati- Ancient Egypt Breakout Room

10-11a, 11-noon, 1-2pm, or 2-3pm (Jan and Apr only, otherwise 1-2pm)

Small Youth Program Room

Crack Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics and Solve the Puzzle!  Students will be placed in the shoes of investigators as they seek to crack a mysterious code left behind by the ancient Egyptians.  The investigative teams will have sixty minutes to solve four clues and crack the code.  Students only have a set number of attempts to open the lock before the ancient lock deteriorates and remains jammed for all history!  Do you have what it takes to crack the code? Geared for ages 9-13.  Registration required.

January 16: Homeschool Hangout

1-2 pm
Noblesville Library
Small Youth Program Room

Hangout with other homeschool families and students in a fun with a variety of activities. All materials provided.  Geared towards ages 5-13. No registration required.

January 16: Grossology

10-11:30 am or 1-2:30 pm
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis- Welcome Center

Ooze on over to the museum to take your learning in a new direction.. an awesomely GROSS one!  In this class you will make a bacteria kaleidoscope, create a microbe museum, learn how mucus helps your body, and much more!  This program is sure to disgust in a fascinating way.  Suggested audience is ages 6 and up.  Advance registration is required.

January 18: Monthly Make It “Book Binding”

2-4 pm
Irvington Branch

Adults and children ages 8 and older are invited to create a simple-to-shelve hand-sewn book.  Japanese binding is easy to create and makes an elegant portfolio for loose pages.  

January 22: Homeschool Hangout (Clark Pleasant Branch)

2-3 pm

Homeschool families with school aged children are invited to participate in a librarian-led activity about music science history books or just plain fun. Time to socialize will follow.

January 28: Random Fandom: Marvel

4-6 pm
Fishers Library, 5 Municipal Drive, Fishers 46038
Teen Program Room

Celebrate your fandom! Every month we will explore the realms of a different fandom! From Avengers to Doctor Who, to K-Pop and Pokémon, we will geek out together in an open and accepting evening of fun. Cosplaying is encouraged but not required. For grades 6-12. No registration required.

January 28: Everyday Artists

6-7:30 pm
Fountain Square Branch

Individuals of all ages are invited to explore art through many mediums.  This month’s program is salt and glue.  Registration is required for this FREE program.  No previous art experience is required.

January 28: Homeschool Enrichment: L.E.A.P. Learn, Explore, and Play!

Noblesville North Meeting Room

Take the L.E.A.P! Learn, Explore and Play at the Library! Calling all young elementary homeschoolers! Join us at the Noblesville Library to expand your mind on the liberal arts! This homeschool enrichment program will cover topics such as artist, author, world studies and more! Each session will include group instruction, a hands on activity and independent learning centers. Ages 5-8. No registration required. 

January 29: Homeschool Hangout (Fishers)

2-3 pm

Calling all homeschoolers! Join us at the Fishers Library and play games, make crafts and build things with other homeschoolers. All supplies are provided… just bring your imagination! Geared for ages 5-13.

January 29: Young Scientists @ Southport

Elementary school-aged children are invited to learn about topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through fun and interactive activities.  Registration is required for this FREE program.
