Sign up now for summer camps at the Indiana State Museum. Camps are offered weekly from May 29 through July 27. Before and after care is available.

Pre-K (new! ½ day camps for ages 4-6): Indiana Art & Nature, Indiana Animals

CAMP FEES

Full week (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.): Members pay $210 per week; Non-members pay $235 per week.

Half-day, full week camps (9 a.m. – noon): Members pay $105 per week; Non-members pay $117 per week.

Sibling discount: A $5 additional discount for siblings attending the same camp is available.

BEFORE AND AFTER CARE

Camp begins at 9 am and ends at 4 pm. Before and after care is available for an additional fee, and pre-registration is required. Camper initiated activities and games will be provided.

 Before care: 8 – 9 am $30 per week ($6 per day)
 After care: 4 – 5:30 pm $45 per week ($9 per day)
 Combined before and after care: $75 per week ($15 per day)
*For half day camps, only before care is offered.

LUNCH/SNACKS

Campers should bring their own water bottles, non-refrigerated lunch and two snacks per day. Half day campers should bring their own water bottle and one snack.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Refunds will be given if a child is withdrawn from camp more than two weeks prior to the camp’s start date. If a program is canceled, every effort will be made to contact participants 24 hours in advance.

Have you ever wondered why Indiana has so many fossils, why limestone is our state stone, or why no one has found a dinosaur bone (yet) in Indiana? Grab your gloves and a trowel and travel back to a time before humans inhabited Indiana, and discover what stories Indiana’s rocks and fossils can tell us.

Become a paleontologist or geologist for the week and discover Ice Age animals, amazing geological specimen, and ancient sea fossils. Excavate an Ice Age site, hunt for microfossils, and learn about the formation of rocks and minerals in Indiana.

FRONTIER SURVIVOR CAMP

 June 4 – 8, 2018; 9 am – 4 pm

In 1816, the new state of Indiana became part of the United States’ western frontier. Now you must think like a pioneer. Make decisions as your group plans, builds and navigates in the densely forested terrain of southern Indiana. The goal — survive!

INDIANA FASHION RUNWAY CAMP

If you’ve ever wanted to create your own clothes, this camp is the place for you! Discover how to create your own designs, make a pattern and complete a totally unique garment. Use tools of the trade and explore the museum’s collection of clothing and costumes. See if you have the skills to become Indiana’s next fashion star! *(Also offered June 11 – 15, 2018.)

BUILD IT CAMP

 June 11 – 15, 2018; 9 am – 4 pm
 Ages: 8 – 13

Design your dream city! Learn how to build architectural masterpieces, plan cities and construct viable bridges. Exploring Indianapolis’ architecture and interacting with architects, historic preservationists and civil engineers are a few of the ways campers will be inspired while creating a city they can call their own.

Learn how to help out in the kitchen by practicing mixing, measuring and kitchen safety. Discover sources of local food around the city and in your neighborhood. Try new foods and experiment with kitchen science. Explore what it takes to be a chef!

INDIANA ART & NATURE (NEW; Half-Day Camp)

You’re the artist in this camp of imaginary underground, ocean, land and sky adventures! Have fun as you learn about different artistic forms and mediums by exploring aspects of nature.

CULINARY ARTS CAMP

Learn the basics of cooking including mixing, measuring, handling a knife and kitchen safety. Expand your palette by trying a variety of international cuisines and participate in a daily foodie challenge. Explore local food, molecular gastronomy, culinary careers and food science. Prepare to become Indy’s next top chef!

INDIANA ANIMALS (NEW; Half-Day Camp)

What are the fiercest predators of the Ice Age? Which Indiana animals are endangered? Where do animals live? From the Ice Age to your backyard, you’ll learn all about the animals of Indiana’s past and present.

ECO-EXPLORERS CAMP

From habitat hikes to getting down in the dirt, you’ll explore nature from the ground up! Join the Indiana State Museum and the Earth Discovery Center at Eagle Creek Park to see the wildlife, plants and fossils found in our city & parks and backyards. Discover how the environment has changed from the time pioneers settled here and compare it to today’s Indiana. Use field techniques like identifying poisonous plants, hike an urban safari, and learn how to protect natural resources for the future.

SECRETS OF THE CIRCUS CAMP

 July 23 – 27, 2018; 9 am – 4 pm
 Ages: 6 – 9

Calling all roustabouts and ringmasters: come explore life under the big top! Try your hand at juggling and magic as you give skills of balance and imagination a workout. Discover the secrets behind some of the most spectacular circus acts. Hands-on activities, popcorn olympics and a pie-throwing contest all combine to create an exciting and memorable camp. The grand finale comes at the end of the week as you put together your own circus showcase for friends and family.

DIGGIN’ IN: ARCHAEOLOGY CAMP

Grab a trowel, get in the dirt and unearth Indiana’s past! Discover how the people of Indiana once lived by studying the artifacts they left behind. Be an archaeologist for the week and learn about Indiana’s exciting past examining cultural artifacts. Get your hands messy while learning to surface collect, excavate and identify artifacts.
