Library Story Time

Did you know that many of the libraries in the Indianapolis area offer FREE children’s programs including story times and crafts? Most Thursday mornings, Lulu and I can be found hanging out at Baby Story Time at the library. Some libraries have age restrictions but others don’t! In our class we have a baby as young as 3 weeks old!

When we arrive, Miss Kim blows bubbles for all of the babies to chase and pop. Then we sing a song and then she reads a story that relates to the season or holiday we are closest too. Miss Kim offers suggestions for parents to interact with their babies as she reads: “On every other page the wind is going to blow – you can blow a puff of air on the back of your baby’s head or neck whenever we talk about the wind.” After our first story we generally all sing or rhyme 2 or 3 more selections that are especially written for that day’s story time. Then there are one or two more books read for the babies.

Lulu and I enjoy our time so much! 20 minutes just flies right by! There are about 10 other babies in the class so it’s a great opportunity to meet other parents with children the same age as your child and it’s a great opportunity for the babies to interact with one another. Today a new session began and it was so strange for me to look around and see all of the babies and notice that Lulu is one of the OLDER babies in the class! When children reach 18 months old, they attend another class and there are other age appropriate opportunities for children of all ages throughout the week!
