Do you have a fire truck or firefighter lover? Or even just a local history lover? Then you need to check out the Carmel Fire Buffs and Fire Department Museum in Carmel. This hidden gem is in downtown Carmel, just off the main drag.
The museum is housed in an old fire station and is filled with old fire trucks, equipment and gear and even some fun fire truck inspired ride ons for the kids. The kids (and adults too) are able to climb on all the trucks (and pretend to drive, as my three year old loved) and explore. Don’t miss the old Smokey the Bear costume in the back of one of the garages.
As a retired member of the Carmel Fire Department, museum operator, Jim, is very knowledgable. When we visited with a local moms group, he was happy to provide information and answer any question the kids (or parents) asked.
While the museum does not charge an admission fee, donations are appreciated and go to preserving the history. The museum does not have regular hours but you can call 317-557-4374 to schedule a visit.
