This past weekend, my family and I hopped up I69 to see Coomer Farm, and visit their open house. The farm is so charming! Coomer Farm is approximately 50 minutes northeast of Indianapolis. The open house was packed, and the Coomer’s hosted over 500 people at their farm for their festivities. Our friends from ‘Til The Rooster Crows Ranch in Muncie also came to the event, with farm fresh eggs, a bunny, and some fun reptilian friends. I met up with Stephanie Coomer, one of the owners of the farm, and she discussed with me their plans for the farm, and how it affects the community.
Currently, Coomer Farm hosts riding lessons weekly. If you’re in north Indy, or anywhere close to Madison or Delaware Counties, this would be an amazing opportunity to get your littles signed up for riding lessons. Lessons are currently offered Monday through Friday by appointment between the hours of 10am – 5pm, and Saturdays as they become available.
The Coomers are working ensure that the farm is fully self-sustained, and they are well on their way! In addition to riding lessons, you can also stop by the farm for homemade candles and jam. The candles are food-grade soy wax in nine different scents, and are manufactured as tarts for warmers, and jars candles. The jams come in multiple flavors: blackberry, peach (yum!), strawberry, and apple butter, and are all handmade.
The farm is home to chickens, goats, turkeys, a cow, horses, pigs, two rescued cats, and two rescued dogs. The farm sells livestock and poultry and also offers breeding. At time of publishing (April 2016), the farm does not offer visitations, unless by appointment. This summer, it may be an option, but the Coomers are currently deciding if they will offer scheduled weekly visiting hours. In the meantime, you’re welcome to contact the Coomers at firstname.lastname@example.org, on their facebook page, or by calling 765-624-8440, and set up your time to visit the farm!
