Would you be surprised if I said all these things are free, you just need a library card? If you don’t have your library card yet, run (seriously!) to the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers to get your passport to a world of adventure!

Library in Fishers

If the library isn’t one of your top destinations for year round fun, you may only know the library for its summer reading program. Buckle up because we are here to give you the full scoop on everything this library has to offer. If your child is 5 years old or older they are eligible for a library card of their very own. Check out this link for more information on how to get your library card.

Are you someone who always wants the behind the scenes dish? Every time a book is returned it moves through a conveyor belt system that processes the books immediately based on RFID tags located in each book. The conveyor belt helps move the books while checking them in and sorting them. Do you ever wish you could jump in the Magic School Bus and shrink down to really experience something? Wish no more! The Hamilton East Public Library shared this awesome video with us of a book with a GoPro camera strapped to it while it makes its return journey at the Noblesville branch.

Children’s Library in Fishers

First, let’s talk programs because Fishers has ALL the programs. There really is something for everyone at the library. There are awesome programs for babies and parents to bond together, enriching and fun programs for kids and inventive and actually cool programming for teens.

Now, let’s talk fan favorites. Storytime at the library is a classic. This is a great program to dip your feet into if you have preschoolers that are practicing those important school skills like circle time and quietly listening to a teacher. The librarians always pick great books and include fun stories and crafts in this program. Moovin’ and Groovin’ Time is such a cool program. Kids get to dance, sing and play fun instruments. If your little ones are playing Baby Shark on repeat, hit up this program to find some new kid classics.

Library Programs for Kids

Do you have a new or reluctant reader? Then Love on a Leash and Waggin’ Tales are perfect for you. Kids can practice reading to a real (and really cute) dog that loves to listen to stories. Reading to specially trained dogs gives kids confidence and makes reading fun. Does your kid love American Girl Dolls? There’s a club for that. Legos? Ukulele? Chess? Seriously, there is a program for every member of your family at this library. During the summer, your whole family will love the library summer reading program.

The Youth Services area of the library is awesome. Spread across the entire east wing of the library are aisles of books, bright windows, classrooms for programs and two separate toy play areas. The library even recently added a Mamava Breastfeeding Pod for mamas that need a little privacy to nurse or pump while on the go. It’s a favorite indoor play place in Fishers.

Teens can stay busy at the library too. There are fandom nights, breakout rooms, board game clubs, movie marathons and more. The Fishers Teen Advisory Board even lets teens flex their leadership muscles and gain skills while helping their community. The dedicated Teen Zone at the library is filled with books, magazines and comic books and is an awesome place to hang out with friends. Sprinkled throughout the library are private study rooms that can be used for solo or group study sessions.

I have always felt like owning a library card is a special privilege because it opens the doors to a world of opportunity. A good book can spark a child’s imagination and turn them into a reader for life. Hermione Granger knew what was up when she was always dashing off to the library to help save the wizarding world. The Fishers Library has a little magic of its own though. Beneath the adult’s wing of the library sits the Ignite Studio which is a dedicated, cutting edge maker space that the whole family can enjoy. Stay tuned for an article all about this AMAZING resource for the whole community.

My preschooler has had countless play dates, jammed with Mr. Dan the music man, touched animals with Silly Safaris, clocked hours in the program rooms, learned Smoke on the Water from Professor Steve, made dozens of crafts, idolized librarians, listened to a real Irish band and checked out literally countless books at the library this year alone. Did you know your library could do all that?
