March Homeschool Events in Indianapolis | 2020

Spring is so close, we can taste it!  While we are waiting for that wonderful weather to hit, here are some great activities to keep us occupied in the meantime. Don’t forget to check out the Indy With Kids Events Calendar, for even more local fun!

 

Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation maintains 17 amazing parks and greenways throughout the city of Carmel.  In addition to their suite of innovative and world class parks, they also provide access to the Monon Community Center and The Waterpark.  Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation facilitates top-notch programming for the whole community and provides opportunities to connect as a family with nature.

March 1: Robots After Noon

Central Library at the Learning Curve
10 am – 11 am

Families are invited to try a variety of robotics technology and practice programming.  With various robots and games available each week, families can try something new or dive deeper into a favorite.

*This event also takes place on March 8th (2pm-4pm), 15th (1pm-3pm), 22nd (1pm-3pm), and 29th (1pm-3pm)

March 2: Homeschool Gym

Monon Community Center West Building
10am – 11am 

Make friends while learning a variety of games, exercises and sports. Activities include capture the flag, basketball, soccer and more!  This program meets every Monday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $25.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

March 2: Homeschool Art Adventure

Monon Community Center West Building
11:30 am – 12:30 pm 

Join us for an art adventure!  In this program, you will learn different mediums, famous artists, historic artistic movements, and make your own artwork to take home! This program meets for three Monday sessions: January 6, 13, and 27th.  The session fee is $30 and is available for ages 6-13.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

March 3: Homeschool Tuesdays “Rube Goldberg: Engineering Reactions”

Indiana State Museum
10am – noon 

Dive into a world of investigation and discovery during these two-hour classes designed to stimulate a child’s interest in science, art, history and culture. This month, immerse yourself in the wacky world of Rube Goldberg by exploring chain reactions.  Then you can set off your own chain of events when you design and build your own machine.

March 4: Homeschool Enrichment: Literati- Artist Study

Small Youth Program Room

Calling all young scholars! Come to the Noblesville Library to expand your mind on the liberal arts! This homeschool enrichment program will cover topics such as artist, author, world studies and more! Each session will include group instruction, a hands on activity and independent learning centers. Geared for ages 9-13. No registration required.

March 4: Homeschool Swim

Monon Community Center West Building
noon – 1pm 

Splash into fun with other homeschooling families!  This course is designed to provide swimmers with free time to enjoy the indoor pools, water features, and water slides.  This program meets every Wednesday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $40 and is available for ages 3-15.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

May 5: Homeschool Archery

Monon Community Center West Building
10am – 11am 

Develop safe and proper archery techniques, improve your hand-eye coordination, and learn about the equipment. Participants will learn proper archery behavior, how to string a bow, take aim, and shoot at targets.  This program meets every Tuesday and runs for four weeks.  The session fee is $25 and is available for ages 9-13.  You can register online or by calling  (317) 848-7275

March 5: Homeschool Puzzle Making

Design and create your very own jigsaw puzzle.  All materials provided.

March 10: Homeschool LEGO Club

March 11: Newfields Homeschool Open Studio

Looking for new ways to learn about art? Expand your family’s creativity by exploring a variety of art-making materials in Newfields Homeschool Open Studio sessions. Instructor will provide advice to make curriculum connections and stimulate imaginations. Registration required in advance. $10 Members/ $15 Public.

March 11: Homeschool Coding  101

Use Scratch to learn the basics of coding. Choose from many projects to create an image, video, or animation.

March 12: Full STEAM Ahead “Frog Pong Unplugged Coding”

Fishers Library
1pm – 2 pm

Calling all homeschoolers! Join us for this Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, and Math focused enrichment program.  This month will be a special presentation of The Great Iditarod Race.  Karen Land, three time Iditarod musher and her faithful canine Noggin will entertain with stories from the Alaskan Trail.  No registration is required. This program is open to homeschoolers of all ages.

March 12: Children’s Literature

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis- Welcome Center
10am – 11:30 am or 1pm – 2:30pm

Use pictures and stories from your favorite children’s books to inspire your own learning.  In this class, you will participate in a short drawing lesson, invent your own characters, and explore writing, design, and construction concepts. Suggested audience is ages 6-8, but is open to all ages.  Advance registration is required.

March 12: Tuttle Orchard Homeschool Class: Spring Greenhouse Planting

10am – 11am and 11:30am – 12:30pm

Tuttle Orchards is helping your students learn how things grow in a hands- on environment by offering an educational tour for homeschool students.  This class focuses on ages 5-12.   Cost: $7/ child.  Children 0-23 months are free without participation.  Any children ages 2 years to 16 years who attend must have ticket. Advance registration is required.

March 13: Homeschool Skate

Franklin Skate Club

Come enjoy our monthly skating party with friends! Skate rental is $2 and admission for skaters is $4.

March 16: STEAMpunks: Nothing but the Wind!

Fishers Library
1-2 pm

Calling all homeschoolers! Join us for a FUN club for homeschooling Tweens with STEAM focused enrichment activities.  Recommended for ages 9-13.  No registration is required.

March 17: Slime Class

East Washington Branch
1pm – 2pm

Children and teens ages 6-17 are invited to create their own slime with Ripple Mobile Arts.  Add beads, foam, clay or sand, choose a color, and practice many fun exercises with your slime.  Pre-registration is required.

March 19: Homeschool Book Club

Homeschool families are invited to join this monthly book, where you will read and discuss nominees for the 2019-2020 Young Hoosier Book Award.  This month, younger children will read How to Find a Friend, by Maria S. Costa, and older children will discuss The Adventurers Guild, by Nick Eliopoulos and Zack Loran Clark.

March 19: Homeschool Hoopla

Monon Community Center
9am – noon

Homeschool families are invited to  learn about homeschool programing and events available in Hamilton County.  Tickets are $6/ family.

March 19: Homeschool Hangout

Hangout with other homeschool families and students in a fun with a variety of activities. All materials provided.  Geared towards ages 5-13. No registration required.

March 19: Homeschool Ecology Series

McCloud Nature Park
1-3 pm

The Homeschool Ecology Series at McCloud Nature Park provides in-depth ecology lessons for homeschool students ages 12-18 and their younger siblings! These lessons will be hands-on and include experiments, field studies, and discussions about related careers. There will be optional homework and enrichment ideas to extend the lessons at home and in the community.  Recommended for ages 12-18. Parents may also register and participate. Younger siblings ages 4-11 may also register and participate in their own program. $10/person for ages 12 through adult. $3/person for ages 4-11. Pre-registration is required.

March 21: Region 10 Homeschool Book Sale

Greenwood Christian Church

March 23: Tortilla Cooking Class for Kids

Warren Branch Library
1:30pm – 2:30pm

Children ages 6-12 are invited to join Nutrition Services of the Marion County Health Department for a hands-on tortilla-making experience and cooking lesson.  Pre-registration is required.

March 23: Teen Cooking Made Easy: Skillet cooking

Teens are invited to learn to male simple one-dish meals in a skillet and become the Skillet Chef of their homes!  Pre-registration is required.

March 25: Young Scientists (Southport)

Elementary school-aged children are invited to learn about topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through fun and interactive activities.  Registration is required for this FREE program.
