I was hosted at McDonald’s as a Tastemaker to be a part of their Fresh Beef introduction in the Indianapolis market. As one of the original McD’s Indy Moms, I love sharing how McDonald’s has earned my trust as mom. Central Indiana McDonald’s has sponsored this article. All information and opinions are true to the best of my knowledge.
The sound of a ringing bell floats from the digital screen above a grill, joyful shouts of, “Fresh beef!” fill the kitchen behind the counter at McDonald’s on Michigan and Kessler. The cook at the grill opens a refrigerated drawer and slips his hands into a fresh pair of blue gloves. Out of the drawer, a thick, fresh beef patty emerges and is placed on the grill. It sizzles when it touches the heat and an overhead grill is lowered down on top of it.
A freshly baked bun with sesame seeds is placed in a toaster and is heated just in time for the beef patty to be flipped, seasoned with salt and pepper and then laid down on top of the warm bun. A shot of mustard, a shot of ketchup, lettuce, onions and 2 fresh pickles adorn the inside of the bun. Two slices of premium cheese are placed on the hot, juicy burger patty.
This was all the main event during a behind the counter tour at my neighborhood McDonald’s restaurant.
I love getting behind the scenes and seeing where our food is coming from. McDonald’s is one of the restaurants that I’ve entrusted with the health and nutrition of my children when we have one of those occasional busy drive-thru dinner nights.
It’s important to me as a consumer and as a mother, that McDonald’s really has taken the time to listen to their customer when it comes to providing food in a way that they want it. All McDonald’s quarter-pound burgers are now cooked-to-order with 100 percent fresh beef containing absolutely no fillers, additives or preservatives. Quarter-pound burgers include the Quarter Pounder, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Double Quarter Pounder and Signature Crafted Recipe burgers.
Other enhancements that you’ll notice now and in the coming months; digital menu boards inside and out of the restaurant. Not only will these make the ordering process easier because menu items shown will be specified for the time of day, they’ll be able to personalize the user experience in the future based on the McDonald’s app and geofencing technology.
Inside, you can order at the counter, or you can completely customize your order at one of the electronic kiosks. Your order will be brought to your table (amazing news for moms and dads juggling energetic children.) You can also build a completely personal experience on the McDonald’s app on your phone and your meal will be hot and ready when you arrive at the restaurant to pick it up or brought to your vehicle in one of the numbered stalls outside — more good news for moms and dad who have their hands full.
This isn’t the only change you’ll taste at McDonald’s this season. There’s another piece of the taste journey coming very soon, but you’ll have to stay tuned for that one!
