Meet Megan. She’s the first full fledged team writer with Indy with Kids. One year ago, my friend Windi told me I had to meet Megan — we were introduced by way of email, she worked on some Indy with Kids projects and we finally met in person last summer. She’s fierce, she’s smart and she has something in common with all of us; she’s creating the perpetual “best day ever” for her little guys. Her passion for empowering moms with information to get out and enjoy time with their own littles is exactly what I was looking for in a team member and I found it! As you get to know Megan and her family through her work here at Indy with Kids, I just know you’ll love her too! Plus, she likes wine.
What are some favorite places our readers might run into you sometime?
Exploring Indy is one of my favorite things to do and we spend a lot of time all over town, so the chances of running into me are good! We love the Children’s Museum, particularly in the winter, and frequent Holliday Park in the summer. Other favorites are the Rhythm Discovery Center, The Urban Chalkboard, and the Glendale or College Branch libraries!
Tell us about your family?
I’m married to my wonderful husband Jason, and we have two young boys – Matthew, 3.5, and JP, 16 months. I grew up in Indianapolis, and my parents still live just 10 minutes away from us, which is really nice! My brother is a chef in Chicago making it our go-to short getaway location.
What non-child related things do you do for fun?
My husband and I love live music, so going to a concert or sitting at a restaurant while a local artist plays, is a favorite. I love art and art history, so if I had a day to myself you may find me wandering around the IMA then enjoying a glass or wine or two at the café.
Best place to eat in Indy
· with kids – My kids love the giant waffle at Taste in SoBro and watching the train bring our drinks at Pizza King Station!
· with a girlfriend – Delicia for yummy Latin American food and margaritas or Tastings for appetizers and wine tasting!
· on a date – Our favorite spot is Canal Bistro in Broad Ripple, especially on a nice evening. After dinner, walk to BRICS for ice
cream! On Mass Ave, it’s almost always BRU Burger, and for something fancier we love Recess or The Libertine.
What do you do with your kids on a rainy day?
I’m not afraid of messy – so on a rainy day, we’re often doing something that isn’t helping me make my house tidier. 🙂 Painting,
making slime, or playing in our indoor sensory table are common!
Is your family more of an outdoor family or indoor family?
We love being outside! You can find us outside all year long. We haven’t attempted it yet, but we can’t wait to bring our boys camping!
What’s to love about Indy?
There’s so much to love about Indy! So much has changed over the years, and our family, restaurant, and entertainment scenes are getting better and better. I think the attention we’ve been getting in the last few years, touting Indy as a great vacation spot, is well deserved!
What’s on your playlist?
If they write their own music and play an instrument then it’s possible an artist will land on my playlist! We’ve been to over sixty Dave Matthews Band concerts alone so it’s safe to say they’re my favorite. Ben Harper, Pearl Jam, Ray Lamontagne, Kings of Leon, and Goo Goo Dolls could pretty much be on repeat.
What’s one thing your kids would say you aren’t very good at?
I’m a huge planner and organizer of events and activities and deadlines – but that tends to fall apart at home. My grandmother
always said “I don’t file, I pile” and that rings true in many aspects of my life! My house isn’t messy, but if you come over be sure not to open any drawers or closets, and definitely don’t look in my car!
What are you most looking forward to in 2015?
I’ve taken a lot of risks in the last few of years – I finished my Ph.D., had two children, quit teaching (I taught for 10 years), began working part time in marketing, and expanded my consulting work and writing – so I’m excited to see what 2015 has to bring and spend more time with my children, at the same time. I am so excited to be part of the Indy with Kids team and I know we have so many big things on the horizon, too!
How would your best friend describe you in three words?
Three words? I think (and hope!) she’d say I’m kind, genuine, and thoughtful (self-aware and aware of others) – and I look for the same in my friends! Also, funny. I hope she says I’m funny. 🙂
See? You’re going to love her. If you see Megan and her crew out and the city, say hi! You can catch her on the Indy with Kids Instagram starting this month @indywithkids!
