We’re in a new frame of mind, frame of stomach and frame of pocketbook these days. I have three weeks left of being on payroll at the Not for Profit and then we become a single income family for a while. For this reason we’re cutting back on our food budget, this means no more eating out on a daily basis (yes…it’s true). After being pregnant for two years straight and as a result of frequenting restaurants a little too….well, frequently, Jay and I both have a serious case of baby belly. For this reason we’re trimming back our food intake.
I’ve been cooking at home quite a bit and our withdrawal from the overfull feeling we’ve gotten used to from restaurant dining has been difficult. In the evening, while we’re sitting on the bed blogging, paying bills, cuddling a baby or watching television, Jay and I both start getting that hunger feeling that is only around because we’re so used to eating too much dinner. Now we’re trying to find snacks that we can enjoy in moderation to stifle the temptation to order a pizza at 10:30 at night.
Last night we tried the new flavors of Green Giant Veggie Snack Chips. They’re made with real vegetables and they are delicious! The new Barbecue Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips and the Garden Ranch flavored Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips were a great savory (almost midnight) snack. They pack in about 120 calories (waaaaaay less than a pizza) and are made with real vegetables (no veggies on my pizza, ha ha!). Eating these yummy chips is NOT the same thing as eating vegetables but I feel better about what I’m eating instead of eating something with more calories than nutritional value.
One of the most common recurring questions on the Indy with Kids Facebook page is about snacks. Parents want to know what can they pack in their kid’s school lunch, what should they serve them after school, what can they keep in the car on the go, what can they take to picnics in the park, what would travel well on an airplane and on and on and on. We all want to feed our families well and we all want something quick and easy so we have time to spend with our kids. I feel good about recommending Green Giant Veggie Snack Chips to you, because our family eats them too!
As we journey down this strange road of being a stay at home mom without a fancy paycheck and trying to get our physical health back on track, I’m excited to see what new things come our way, be it sweet potato chips, adventures or whatever!
