2017 Update: Sunflower Diaper Service has ended their Indianapolis area diaper service. We are sad to see them go.
Once you’re four or five kids in, you don’t really tend to try new things. Everything is a hand me down from the once adorable Easter dress, now not quite as bright as it used to be, to the techniques used to modify the behavior of your unruly preschooler.
This month I tried something that once upon a time scared me. My fourth child is now nearly a year and half old and our fifth baby is due in the next few weeks, so when Chris from Sunflower Diaper Service contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in checking out the brand new service he’s brought to Indy, I shrugged my shoulders and thought, why not?
I hang out with some pretty “crunchy” girlfriends but I’ve always jokingly referred to myself as the “soggy” one in the group, so when I posted an Instagram snap of my son in a cloth diaper, my friends were super surprised…and super supportive. Plus, I scored huge street cred with that crowd because I [dropshadowbox align=”right” effect=”lifted-both” width=”200px” height=”” background_color=”#ffffff” border_width=”1″ border_color=”#dddddd” ]Use code IndywithKids through 4/30 for 2 weeks of free service![/dropshadowbox]knew something they didn’t; Indianapolis now has a service that will drop off clean diapers to your doorstep and pick up the icky ones. Sunflower Diaper Service launders them and leaves behind a fresh batch every week!
When my friends talked about diapering their babies in cloth, they had sentiments over diapers that I really couldn’t even imagine mustering. I’ve never in my life heard so many people use the word “love” and “diapers” in the same breath. I couldn’t imagine adding more laundry to my already piled high couches-turned-clothes-closets AND there was no way you were going to convince me to put POO in MY washer.
Sunflower Diaper Service takes care of those two issues — you simply shake off what you can in the toilet and then toss the cloth into the provided pail with liner. They don’t want you to soak them or rinse them. The soiled diapers never go into your laundry. On your delivery day, you set the liner bag (or the whole pail if you don’t want to open it) outside and it gets picked up and replaced with clean cloths. No extra laundry and NO POO in your washer.
There are many reasons why people choose to cloth diaper — it’s good for the planet, good for your wallet and good for your baby’s body. There are very few reasons parents decide not to cloth diaper and Sunflower Diaper Service crosses them all off of the list.
