White River Festival Community Fun Day

White River Festival Community Fun Day

The White River “flows in two forks across most of Central and Southern Indiana, creating the largest watershed contained entirely within the state, draining all or part of nearly half the counties.” In 2011, a festival was created to create awareness about how our actions impact this river.

The White River Festival spans the entire month of September with many activities taking place each and every day of the month. All of the activities are represented in six different categories that spell out “WATERS” (Wildlife, Art, Training & Learning, Entertainment, Recreation, Service). Most of the offerings surrounding the festival look family friendly but the one that I’m most attracted to is the White River Festival Community Fun Day.

On Saturday, September 1st from 11am-2pm, drop by the Indiana State Museum for a FREE event that celebrates the White River and educates all of us about where our drinking water comes from. There will be make and take projects, hands on science activities and fun games on the lawn. I recommend visiting this event if you can! Might be a fun thing to do after the downtown Labor Day Parade!
