When I attended the Make-A-Wish OHKYIN Big Wish Gala several years ago, I didn’t know what a huge impact Make-A-Wish had on our community as a whole and within my own circle of friends specifically. As I shared stories from that evening, my own friends came forward to share with me their stories and stories of their children who had their wishes granted.
Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. It’s amazing just how important this wish can be. A wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey and has significant impact on the child and their family. 89% of medical professionals say that the wish experience influences wish kids’ physical health. 99% of parents reported that the wish experience gave their children increased feelings of happiness and 96% said that the wish experience strengthened their families.
Throughout the year, Make-A-Wish spends a lot of time fundraising to make these wishes happen, and they can’t stop — only about half of the children who are eligible to receive a wish actually are granted a wish due to funding. World Wish Day kicks off on April 29th, learn more about how “Wishes take muscle” on the Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana Make-A-Wish website.
Also, you can join our family at the BIG Wish Gala on Friday, April 27th at the J.W. Marriott. This is the largest fundraiser for our community chapter of Make-A-Wish and tickets are still available. The BIG Wish Gala is an evening that celebrates the mission of the organization, which is to bring hope, strength and joy to kids battling critical illnesses.
