JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION: HISTORY, HEALTH & THE ARTS

Saturday, June 15th, 2024

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Join the Indiana State Museum for their Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15, with free admission and special activities focusing on this year’s theme, “History, Health and the Arts.”

Chat with their curators and get up close with amazing artifacts that share the stories of Indiana’s past. You’ll also have the chance to watch “Major Taylor: Champion of the Race,” a new documentary from WTIU Public Television and Indiana Public Media about Indiana cycling legend Major Taylor that features interviews with Kisha Tandy, their curator of social history, along with several pieces from their collection.

Engage with their local partners and try fun activities designed to help you get active and stay healthy. Learn about bike safety, practice cycling skills, and get a free bike helmet from IU Pediatrics. Plus, connect with Growing Places Indy to learn about developing healthy habits.

Watch live performances by community artists including Elijah Stephens (22Starving Artists Drum Circle) and Epiphany Dance Collective. Engage with Asante Art Institute as they explore the history of Juneteenth through their Prep4Life performance pieces, which will center around the theme The Power of Freedom. Plus, bring out your inner artist through hands-on creation activities and a collaborative community mural.
