The downtown Indianapolis ice skating rink that we’ve all been waiting for is now open for the winter season in 2025 and 2026, operating from November 21, 2025, until Sunday, January 25, 2026! In so many major cities our family has visited during our travels and road trips, we’ve been envious of the fabulous ice skating rinks in their downtown areas. We’re so happy to have the opportunity to see our beautiful city glittering with ice as downtown has transformed into a “cool” spot to hang out during the winter months with the downtown Indy ice skating rink. Now, for 2025-26, show your Pacers game day ticket and receive free skate rental on the day of your game (admission ticket still required for entry).
Ice skating at the Elevance Health Rink on Bicentennial Unity Plaza at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis is so much fun! The plaza is a delightful blend of recreation, art, and community spirit. A relatively new addition adjacent to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Unity Plaza has quickly become a hub for public gatherings and artistic expression. During the winter months, this space transforms into an NHL-sized ice-skating rink, offering a fun winter activity for residents and visitors alike on the sunken ice skating area. Just looking? It’s okay to stop by even if you are not skating. You can explore the area, check out the Sphere and the Legends Mural, grab a drink, and enjoy watching the skaters from nearby seating areas.
The Elevance Health Rink is now open and marks the beginning of a new winter tradition in Indianapolis. Operating from November 21, 2025, until Sunday, January 25, 2026, this rink is in the heart of downtown Indianapolis with quick access to restaurants and other entertainment venues. The creation of this rink is part of a broader initiative, celebrating 200 years of unity in the area. The plaza itself is a testament to this spirit, functioning as a public space that showcases art and provides a space to meet up and enjoy the city.
Taking your kids to the ice rink near Gainbridge Fieldhouse offers a magical winter experience in downtown Indianapolis. We had so much fun! Youth ice skate sizes are available.
The rink offers two mobility sleds designed for guests with disabilities, making it possible for everyone to enjoy time on the ice safely and comfortably.
Tendercare has partnered with Indy with Kids to promote accessibility and inclusion for children with disabilities in Indianapolis by highlighting accessible community activities on their platform. While Tendercare’s primary focus is on in-home services for medically complex children, they are dedicated to creating inclusive spaces where all children can participate fully.
Location and Hours of Operation
Downtown Indy Ice Rink Address: 125 S Pennsylvania St, Indianapolis, IN 46204, adjacent to Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Warm up with snacks and drinks from the Snack Shack on the lower level of Morris Bicentennial Plaza. You’ll find a variety of food options along with beer and wine for purchase. The Snack Shack is open throughout all skating hours in November and December, and beginning two hours after rink opening in January. You are welcome to bring your own food. Outside alcohol is not permitted, since beer and wine are available for purchase at the concession area.
Gainbridge Fieldhouse Ice Rink Hours
Monday to Thursday: Available for private events; open for public skating (check the website for availability).
Friday: 11 AM – 9 PM.
Saturday: 11 AM – 9 PM.
Sunday: 1 PM- 9 PM.
Open daily during school holiday break, December 22 – January 4.
Special dates and holiday hours vary (e.g., Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, etc.).
On January 19 (MLK Day), join in for a free skating day from 11 AM to 9 PM.
Admission and Ice Skate Rental
Admission: $15 per session, except on Friday and Saturday nights after 5 PM, when it is $14.
Skate Rental: $4 per session.
Session Duration: Each session lasts 90 minutes.
Other Services: On-site skate sharpening for personal skates at $10 per pair, and skate aids available for rent at $10 per 30 minutes
Ice Skating Booking and Tickets
Advanced booking is highly recommended to secure a 90-minute skating session. Tickets can be purchased online. Walk-up and in-person sales are also available based on availability.
Parking at the Downtown Ice Skating Rink
There are several parking options around downtown Indianapolis, including garages and street parking. The Virginia Avenue Parking Garage, located on the northeast corner of the Fieldhouse and connected via a sky bridge, offers the closest covered parking. Advance purchase of parking passes at select locations is also possible. During the 2025-26 season, Elevance Health Rink visitors can park in the Virginia Avenue Garage for free on non-event days at Gainbridge Fieldhouse! Be sure to grab a parking validation ticket at the Skate Shack during your visit. Keep your parking ticket, and then upon exit, use your ticket and scan the validation ticket upon exiting the garage, and you’re all set! NOTE: This is only valid only on non-event days at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and only at the Virginia Avenue Garage.
