Just because we don’t live in New Orleans doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate Mardi Gras. Believe it or not there are many places around town to enjoy this party.
If you’re not familiar with this event, Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday” is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
Here are Indy places that you can enjoy the food, music and energy of this festive Holiday.
The Jazz Kitchen hosts their annual Mardi Gras celebration featuring Pork n Beans Brass Band. Enjoy Crab Cakes, Jambalaya, Shrimp Etoufée & other New Orleans fare. The doors open at 5 pm & the band starts at 7 pm. To find out more information on how to get tickets click here.
Do you like Gumbo? The Indianapolis City Market is gathering some of the area’s best chefs for a family-friendly Gumbo Cook Off. Ten local chefs will enter their best gumbo recipe for the tasting on Fat Tuesday, February 28th at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here. Children 5 & younger are free, ages 6-17 are $10 and adults are $20.
Zydeco’s Restaurant in Mooresville offers true Cajun fare. The establishment has been featured on Food Network & CNN for its South Louisiana food. Their menu features frog legs, jambalaya, crawfish etouffée & gumbo. Zydeco’s executive chef, Carter Hutchinson, is a New Orleans native, meaning he knows what good Cajun cooking should taste like.
If you want to experience more than food then sign up for the 2017 Mardi Gras Bar Crawl Indianapolis on February 25th. “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” (let the good times roll) at clubs and bars around town while enjoying drink specials, no cover charges, mask contest and a photo bead hunt for prizes and tickets, and, of course, beads. Tickets are $20 per person but can be purchased for only $11 per person on Groupon.
Another over 21 celebration can be found at Radio Radio on Prospect Street on Tuesday, February 28th. The concert will have a New Orleans Funk party vibe. Some new, and a lot familiar, enough to keep everyone happy. The players are all top notch – some jazz guys, some pop and blues guys. Tickets are $5. Details can be found
Speedway is hosting their Mardi Gras on Main on Saturday February 25th at 8pm. The Main Street Restaurants & Bars will offer Mardi Gras themed drinks & food. There will be street entertainment and prizes for best costumes.
The kids will be happy to know that they will also have a place to celebrate. Most area Chick-fil-A restaurants will have a Mardi Gras themed family celebration on Fat Tuesday as well from 5 – 8 pm.
