The annual McCloud Prairie Maze is open at McCloud Nature Park outside of North Salem, and this year’s theme celebrates the monarch butterfly. These orange and black beauties are commonly seen at McCloud Nature Park, and they are important pollinators. Monarchs begin their long trip south – as many as 2,000 to 3,000 miles – between August and October, flapping their wings five to 12 times per second and traveling as many as 100 miles per day.
Thankfully, the McCloud Prairie Maze isn’t nearly as exhausting, and it’s a lot more fun! Making the correct turns through the big monarch will result in a walk of about a half-mile.

October 1: National Night Out Against Crime

National Night Out Against Crime is an annual event we host every year. This year we are co-hosting with the Brownsburg School Corporation and holding the event at the East Middle School. This event is rain or shine. The evening is free to everyone. There is free food and entertainment. The Mississippi Raglips and Riverdog Band will be performing. Several vendors with free information will be available. And most important time to meet the Brownsburg Officers.
October 3: uPaint A Story – Toddler/Preschool Story Time

Bring your little monsters to our next toddler/preschool story time! Each artist will enjoy listening to a not so spooky story and painting a monster bank. We will of course have a ghoulish snack too. Grab a friend and make plans to join us! No reservation needed. Price: $13
October 4: Ninja Course Adventure

Come to Pecar Park to test yourself on our wooded course, fitness challenge, and parkour moves. The course is less than 1 mile and is created to be age specific. Bring your running shoes and energy. Course is approximately 15 minutes long. Come check in 1/2 hour before your start time. Three age categories: 4-6 (start time 5:00PM), 7-9 (start time 5:45PM), and 10-13(start time 6:45PM). Plainfield’s Inaugural International Festival is a FREE celebration of cultural diversity for the entire family features music, dance and demonstrations from around the world, authentic foreign foods, and educational activities. Our fun, FREE, family-friendly festival featuring fabulous fall foliage returns to McCloud Nature Park on Saturday, Oct. 19! Come out to McCloud to celebrate the colorful autumn leaves and enjoy pumpkin-decorating, tree-climbing, throwing atlatls (ancient hunting weapons), operating an apple cider press, hayrides (nominal fee), and more! October 19: Witch’s Ride Avon

Put on your best witch, goblin, or ghoul costume and grab that broom (bicycle) and get ready to ride your way around Avon Town Hall Park! Participants of the first annual Witch’s Ride Avon will make their way around the lake trail and toss candy to tiny ghosts and goblins trick-or-treating in the park. Candy is included with ticket purchase. All remaining proceeds benefit the Avon Public Safety Department! The trunk-or-treat is free for the community and runs from 5-8 pm. The ride will take place at 6 pm and go until we run out of candy! So bring your hoards and have a great evening riding your broom and being spooky! Hosted by Rebel Studio.
October 26: Fairies join Halloweekend at Beasley’s Orchard

The Fairies are so excited to join in the Halloweekend! Come see visit our fairies and see if you can find the Fairy trial Fairy stop.
