The highly anticipated Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has opened its doors, bringing a new level of movie-going fun to Indianapolis. This Indy movie theater is located on the west side (best side) of Indianapolis in the Lafayette Square area. Formerly the home of the Georgetown Theater, it has been completely renovated and updated with the best movie projectors in the Midwest, a laser projector from Belgium. Additionally, there’s Dolby Surround Sound and comfortable seats that recline AND are heated.
If you need more reasons to come enjoy the Alamo Drafthouse, you’ll find 13 screens, more than 700 seats, a menu full of scratch-made eats, craft cocktails, and local beers. They have 34 beers on draft as well as a plethora of cocktails and boozy shakes that can be enjoyed at the bar, in the lounge, or at your seat!
Did someone say, “Unlimited popcorn?”
Yes, yes they did. And not just boring popcorn, try some of the specialty options, like popcorn with teeny churros mixed in!
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Indianapolis
From indie gems to big-budget blockbusters, Alamo Drafthouse cinema offers as close to a perfect moviegoing experience as you can get. Their policies are unforgiving to those who might disrupt the experience for guests, and they offer a luxurious space for enjoying a movie, better than most can have at home. Plus, you can have your cocktail-dinner-and-a-movie outing—all in one seat!
Kids at the Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theater
Children and families are welcome at Alamo Drafthouse, but certain times are restricted to adults only. There are also movie times that were created specifically for families to attend with children.
Unlike most theaters, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has a policy that ALL children/minors under the age of 18 must have an adult accompanying them in the movie theater. That’s right, you have to go see Moana for the eleventy-billionth time AND you’ll have to awkwardly accompany your teen on their first movie date. This policy is in place for the safety of the minors and to help ensure an enjoyable moviegoing experience for all of the guests.
Children age 6 and above are welcome to appropriate movies at any time with their adults, however, children 5 years old and under (yes, even brand new infants) are only permitted to attend the designated “All Ages” and “Family Friendly” screening times. But this is super easy to figure out on the Alamo Drafthouse website. Select “Kid Friendly” when choosing your tickets and the available times will be shown.
Food at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
The expansive menu at Alamo Drafthouse includes hamburgers, salads, wraps, fish and chips, chicken, and other delicious food. You can also
order sweets and snacks like cookies, chips & queso, baked pretzels, mozzarella sticks, wings, and theater candy (to see the full menu, click here). If you’re concerned about allergens or looking for gluten-free or vegan options, there are entrees and food items for you!
Right now, my kids and I are swooning over the special Wicked movie-inspired menu options and add-ons; Shiz University Chicken Wrap, Yellow Brick Burger. I’m excited to try the cocktails; Defying Gravi-tea and Witch’s Brew
You’ll order food at your seat with a server, so arrive early. Once the movie begins and you want to order or get refills, you’ll write everything down on a piece of paper, stick it on your tray, and push the service button. This way, there won’t be distractions or talking during the movie.
