One of our favorite parks in Fishers is Brooks School Park off of 116 Street and Brooks School Road (11780 Brooks School Rd.). We’ve been coming here since my oldest, Tommy, was about 4 years old. It’s relatively newly renovated (completed in June 2011) and is an amazing ADA accessible playground! To get to the playground area, there is a fun bridge to cross Mud Creek from the parking lot. My kids love to look at the babbling creek, which is always popular and a fun stop on the way. The only restrooms are located near the parking lot, up a little hill and there is a ramp for strollers and wheelchairs.
One of the best features of this park is that it’s great for a range of ages. The first larger playground you come upon from the bridge is intended for ages 5 to 12. Lily, at age 3, does just fine on this one now. It is pretty perfect for Tommy at age 6. We saw many children in the 7 to 10 age range enjoying the playground as well.
Directly next the larger playground is a smaller one, for children ages 2 to 5. We started coming to this park and playground when Lily was about 17 months old and she could easily navigate the smaller playground. Brooks School Park also has plenty of swings, including 6 big kid swings, 4 baby swings and 2 ADA accessible swings. We have never had to wait long for a swing at this park!
There is also a trail that goes all around the park, a basketball court, a rental shelter, several picnic tables and benches to have a quick snack or lunch. Be sure to wear a hat and sunscreen; there is not too much shade, besides a tree near the smaller playground. This is our favorite spot to set up a picnic blanket!
More information can be found on the Fishers Parks website.
