Re-Generation Indy is a great new community organization that brings the talent of several local artists to Indianapolis kids in a variety of workshops. The classes are incredibly fun, but the best part is the price. The workshops are only $5 per child (cash only)!

Young aspiring artists ages 5 to 20 will love all of the offerings. Individual workshops have specific age ranges, but the artists at Re-Generation Indy are incredibly flexible and adapt lessons to work for young artists of multiple ages. I found that all of the teachers were excellent with children of all ages. Our class ranged in children 5 years of age to teenagers.
My children are 5, 7, and almost 9 years old, so these classes meet my top 2 requirements: fun for all three kids, and at a price I can afford for all three children to be able to go!
June classes include painting, drawing, sculpture, graffiti, modern art techniques, fashion, and even song writing! If you have a little fashionista in your house there are several classes dabbling in fashion, including t-shirt design, beading, and macramé. Today, we tried the Paint and Punch class, Re-Generation Indy’s family friendly answer to the popular Wine and Canvas classes.
At each Paint and Punch class, kids are offered yummy, healthy snacks and are assisted in painting a canvas. Our project was a sunset over the ocean using acrylic paint. Unlike other canvas painting classes which produce almost identical cookie cutter works of art, the kids in our class were encouraged to express themselves as individuals, truly using their creativity to create fun masterpieces as unique as they are, and isn’t that the point of having your kids take art classes?
Re-Generation Indy workshops give the kids an opportunity not just to learn new skills in a fun way, but also help to foster our children’s creativity.
Classes run every 4 to 6 weeks with a youth art show at the end of each session. The first Youth Art Show will take place June 19th – 21st at Studio B Creative Exchange (613 N. East St.). Opening night is on June 19 from 6-10pm and will feature live music. The show is free to attend, but donations are accepted to help keep bringing these fabulous art classes to the next generation.
