When you walk into Tilly’s Tea Room in Fishers, you’re welcomed by a woman’s beautiful British accent, which belongs to owner, Sharon Moore. She is originally from New Castle, England, and her career with the BBC and Champ Car Racing brought her to the Indianapolis area. When she attended University in England (that’s plain ‘ol “college” to us Hoosiers), she worked in bars and restaurants, so it was not a far-fetched idea to open her very own tea room in Indiana. Tilly’s Tea Room is named after Sharon’s daughter, Tilly. Tilly and her brother Max were actually visiting the tea room when my daughter and I went in for the Princess Tea Service. The Princess Tea offered 2 child-friendly finger sandwich options: peanut butter and jelly, or ham and cheese. Also accompanying the tea was a fresh baked fruit scone with strawberry jam (sooo thick and yummy), fresh Devonshire clotted cream, a chocolate brownie, and a bite-sized cupcake. The choice of drink included milk, orange juice, or Ribena, which is an English Blackcurrant Cordial. We opted for the Ribena, and it was sweet, fruity, and delicious. All teas on the menu are currently authentic English teas.
Tilly’s Tea Room offers event services as well: kid’s parties, baby and bridal showers, and birthday parties. For kids 6 and up, the parties are celebrated as an afternoon tea, offering fresh linens, china, and silver-service. For kids 6 and under, plastic serve-ware is used. Events are $29.95 a head for adults and $17.95 a head for kids. The princess tea that we opted for was $11.95 a head for kids 12 and under. The tea room is inviting for adults and kids of all ages. There is a kid’s corner, which offers toys and a small table and tea set for play. As my daughter played for a bit with Max and Tilly, she said, “Mommy, I love having tea parties, even if there are boys here.” She was right. It was a great time.
