SlooMoo Slime Museum in Chicago

Slime. It’s squishy. It’s gooey. It’s oddly satisfying to play with, and it’s a teeny bit gross. If these words grab your attention in a good way, then a road trip to Chicago should be on your list!

Is slime a toy? Well, if you can play with it, I think that classifies it as a toy. Over the past decade, the world of slime has evolved into a full-fledged cultural phenomenon. Enter the Sloomoo Slime Museum – the epitome of all things squishy, stretchy, and sensory. While we were in town for the Chicago Toy and Game Fair, we took our kids to Sloomoo Slime Museum in Chicago for a bit of fun.

What is the Sloomoo Slime Museum?

The Sloomoo Slime Museum is not your average museum, it offers visitors an immersive experience into the world of slime. Combining art, interaction, and sensory indulgence, it’s a place where visitors of all ages can dive hands-first into the captivating world of slime. We went to Sloomoo for the kids, but my husband and I enjoyed ourselves too! Is anyone ever too old for slime?

Here’s What to Expect

  1. Interactive Exhibits: From vats of slime you can stick your hands into, to building your take-home slime, the museum provides multiple touchpoints. Some exhibits even allow visitors to walk on non-sticky slime or feel the rain of slime showers. Guests can sling-shot slime at their friends and even smear slime on a wall — a community art project of sorts.
  2. DIY Slime Bar: At the DIY Slime Bar, guests get to customize their slime with an array of colors, textures, and add-ins. Each admission includes the opportunity to design a custom 8 oz slime. You’ll get to choose from more than 40 colors, 60 fragrances, and 150 charms.
  3. Hands-on Play Area: Slime is not just visual. Its tactile nature makes it a multi-sensory experience. You can walk through 350 gallons of slime (shoes off!) and participate in a variety of weird slime obstacles and activities.
  4. Digital Slime Fun: Kids and adults can enjoy electronic versions of slime as they participate in digital fun like an area to hear ASMR recordings, become a slime monster in an interactive screen area, and enjoy several other offerings.
  5. Events at SlooMoo: The slime museum in Chicago hosts birthday parties, field trips, and private events.

What to Wear to the Slime Museum

Wear comfortable clothes. I recommend short sleeves and loose-fitting pants (sweat pants/athletic pants) so you can roll the pant legs up as you plunge your feet and hands into slime. Long hair should be contained and pulled back or up.

Tickets to the Slime Museum in Chicago

There are several ways to enjoy the slime museum. First, you can purchase a general admission ticket which includes your visit + a custom slime. You can also get an enhanced ticket which includes access to SlooMoo Falls, where slime is released from above and poured all over your body (you’ll wear a rain parka). General admission tickets can also add on a tour of Elmer’s Kitchen, where guests get to go behind the scenes of SlooMoo and see thousands of gallons of Elmer’s Glue & all of the cool things that go on to make so much slime and create the adventure of SlooMoo.

We purchased a general admission ticket for each member of our family and had a great time. The total time we spent at SlooMoo was 90 minutes and my kids really wanted to stay longer.

Why is the Slime Museum Called SlooMoo?

In 2017, there was a viral trend among those in the online slime community. Slime influencers and followers shared their “slime names” which they came up with by replacing the vowels in their name with “oo. Slime = “SLOOMOO” My name is Kooty or Kootoo if you consider y a vowel. I like Kooty better.

Would you ever walk barefoot in a river of slime?
