One day, I was bored and looking for a new show to stream while I folded laundry. I had heard a lot about a BBC show called Doctor Who, so I decided to check it out. It took about four episodes for me to become totally hooked. Soon my kids, started watching with me, and it became a favorite for all of us.
I was so excited when I learned that the largest retailer of Doctor Who merchandise is located just outside of Indianapolis in Camby. Who North America is part store, part museum, and all amazing for fans of the Time Lord.
When we made our visit, my boys were blown away by the sheer volume of Doctor Who merchandise available. They have everything from comic books and posters to unconventional items like a TARDIS and Dalek salt-and-pepper shaker set. If you can imagine it, Who North America probably has it.
I really enjoyed checking out the museum half of the store, which features all kinds of collectible Doctor Who items from years past. My favorite part was seeing the hand-made Doctors crocheted by a regular customer. I love that this show and this place have inspired such dedication.
Who North America is much more than just a store or a showcase. It’s a place where Doctor Who fans of all ages can gather. They regularly host game nights, cosplay workshops, and even charitable events. This fall, they hosted their first annual Doctoberfest. You can keep up with the store’s events by following their Facebook page.
A small back room is home to a classic Doctor Who pinball machine and a Star Trek Voyager video game, both free to play. I think my boys would’ve spent hours in there if I’d let them! In the works for 2017 — a theater room where fans can gather to watch the show together!
If you are a fan of the Doctor, or you’re shopping for one, you have to make the trip to Camby to Who North America. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they truly enjoy connecting fans with the thing they love. We had a great time on our first visit, and we can’t wait to go back!
