How to select a place to take your child for a haircut in Indianapolis
There are more choices than you may think.

- Local barber shop (for boys): We love Warfleigh in Broad Ripple- insider tip-call ahead to see how long the wait is…many places like this don’t take appointments and can sometimes have a long wait. Also, bring something for your kid to do (or let him play with your phone…and in that case, bring something for yourself to do)
Your salon: Most stylists also cut kids hair. If you like how your stylist does your hair, chances are, he or she will do a good job with your kiddo (check with them first though)- A skilled family member: Have them come to your house. For some this may be a great option as your child may be more comfortable, but this could also backfire, as it did in my experience and your child is too comfortable at home and won’t sit still.
- A friend that also cuts hair: Go to their home as they most likely have a better set up than you do at home. Your kid may be unfamiliar with the space and therefor more likely to sit still and cooperate.
- Ask a local moms group-We’ve also found a stylist who worked out of her home (with her own kids barber chair) that I would have never known about had I not asked in a local moms group
- Do it yourself (I have no personal experience with this, but plenty of people do…please do not ask me for tips-I don’t have any)
- National/local chain salons (Great Clips, Sports Clips, Super Cuts, etc.) Many locations, more hours, walk ins, call ahead/online scheduling make these types of salons a great choice for busy families on the go.
Tips:
- Make an appointment if you can
- Bring something for your kids to do while you wait (if you are not at a specific kids salon)
- Bribery works-candy, cookies, a favorite show on the iPad, whatever it takes
- Relax
