I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Beef & Boards is one of the best theater venues in Indianapolis. The food is always delicious (Chef Larry Stoops never disappoints), the staff treats you like family, and the seating makes every spot in the house feel like the best seat. Whether you’re there for a date night, girls’ night, or a special outing, Beef & Boards is one of my very favorite places in the city.
And right now, they’ve got something brand new on stage: Heartbreak Hotel, an official Elvis Presley biomusical that’s all about the life, music, and legacy of “The King of Rock and Roll.” This one is high-energy, heartfelt, and absolutely packed with music you’ll want to sing along to.
About the Show
Heartbreak Hotel isn’t just a greatest-hits concert (though you’ll get plenty of those!). It tells Elvis’ story, guided by his younger self, as he faces the challenges and choices that came with being thrust into the spotlight. It’s the human side of Elvis; the small-town kid who suddenly became one of the most famous people on Earth, set to the soundtrack of the songs we all know and love. Nick Voss, the actor portraying Elvis, looks, sounds, and sings just like the real Elvis. Henry Kirk who plays Young Elvis is one of the brightest young actors I’ve seen on stage in a long time. Just wait until you hear his voice during the hospital scene.
The show features more than 20 of his classics, including Blue Suede Shoes, All Shook Up, Hound Dog, Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock, Burning Love, and, of course, Heartbreak Hotel.
The Cast
Nicholas Voss makes his Beef & Boards debut as Elvis Presley, and he’s joined by some audience favorites you may recognize:
Sarah Hund (The Addams Family, Grumpy Old Men) as Elvis’ mom, Gladys Presley
Eddie Curry <— he’s my uber famous neighbor (The Little Mermaid, A Christmas Story) as Colonel Tom Parker
Benjamin Nurthen (Footloose) as Scotty Moore
Matt Smolko (Waitress) as Bill Black
Together, this cast brings Elvis’ story to life with energy, emotion, and a whole lot of rock ‘n’ roll.
Is Heartbreak Hotel Good for Kids?
This is one show I’d call more of a date night pick. It’s rated PG for adult language and definitely geared toward adults who grew up with or appreciate Elvis’ music. That said, if you’ve got a teen who’s obsessed with Elvis (or just loves live music), they might enjoy it too. But in general, this one’s more fun for the grown-ups.
Remember, children under 3 aren’t permitted, and kids ages 3–15 get a small ticket discount. We have a great list of tips for taking your kids to live theater shows, especially dinner theater.
The Buffet
Let’s be honest, half the fun of going to Beef & Boards is the buffet, and they’ve tied this one in with a Southern flair that Elvis himself would probably approve of. The Slow-Roasted Beef is always a star, but the themed sides are the perfect match for this show. And don’t forget about the salad bar, it’s huge and always fresh. The fried chicken is our can’t-miss pick for this menu lineup.
Every show also comes with a themed cocktail, and for Heartbreak Hotel, it’s a fun nod to Elvis’ Southern roots. You can grab it with or without alcohol, depending on your mood for the evening. And I can’t forget to tell you about the dessert…there’s a peanut butter banana feature that goes perfectly with what we know about The King.
